Thanks guys! I appreciate it.:D
Two Face,
I've been coming to the forums for about the last 18 months but tend to just read the messages and not reply. I love the friendly atmosphere in the forums, especially DC. Congrats to all of you that make it what it is.
Riv,
Hopefully I will be...
WHOOMOOOOOOOOO to me!!!
Submitted my first 200K RC5 blocks for Team Anandtech today. Only took me 139 days.:frown: Hopefully the next 200K will come quicker than that.:D
Jsm,
Have you ever tried to get a PCMCIA card working on a laptop running DOS 5.0 and Windows 3.1?
I remember spending a few days trying to get a laptop running properly before Win95 came out. The hastle of playing with settings in the config.sys and autoexec.bat files is more trouble than its...
The fact that your system seems to run fine when you "have a fan blowing in there" seems to suggest that its a heat problem.
Although you say your CPU is not getting that hot (45c for an Intel chip is quite hot) you are running a lot of other things faster than spec (and so generating...
I use PowerDVD 2.55 with my GeForce 2 GTS card which I run with the Nvidia reference drivers. It runs fine apart from when I press stop it hangs the program. Luckly with W2K you can just end the program from the task manager and everything else is fine.
I changed the fan in the power supply that came with my Inwin Q500 case to a Papst fan. The ps took a 92mm x 25mm fan.
To swap the fan I basically did what fast_eddie suggests. It was a really easy swap that took about 20 minutes to do.
My PC is now much quieter.
Joohang,
The Papst fans I mentioned are not alternatives to the JMC Artic Breeze Plus. The Papst fans would generally be used as case fans whereas the JMC fan is a CPU cooler. I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear.
I brought my fans online at Maplins, which is an electrical component reseller...
Joohang,
I know what you mean about the noise that modern PC's give off. Mine was driving me mad. :|
I haven't got that much experience with different wattage power supplies. My 250W power supply was very noisy so I ended up taking it apart and changing the standard fan to a Pabst 3412 NGL...
Have you got plenty on free space on your c: drive? Maybe its trying to copy all the files there first before uncompressing them and installing the program. Just a guess.
I installed IE5.5 shortly after it was first released and had no problems with it. The only thing that I noticed was that you could print preview web pages. I installed IE5.5 SP1 from windows update about 2 - 3 days ago and have noticed no changes at all - improvements or problems. BTW, I'm...
Thanks for all the feedback. It looks like I should have no real problems upgrading to ver. 8.0. but I think I might wait another week though just to make sure. Microsoft seems to have a history of releasing "fixed" versions of DirectX shortly after a major release, e.g. 7.0 -> 7.0a...
