This last week I built three identical builds.
Threadripper 2990WX
ASRock X399 Taichi sTR4 : 3.30 Bios
G.SKILL Trident Z RGB (For AMD) 32GB F4-3200C14Q-32GTZRX: 3200 14-14-14-34 XMP
EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2
SAMSUNG 970 EVO
Dual Nvidia Quadro P1000s in PCIe slots 1 and 4 (the 2 x16 slots)
The odd...
I have two SATA HDDs full of data. I was running my OS off of a SATA SSD (Crucial MX100) and just switched over to a Samsung 950 Pro which is M.2. I installed the 950 Pro and upon boot up none of the SATA drives are recognizing at all. Not even the DVD drive. I have windows installed and working...
I'm going to reinstall windows on my Intel X-25m 80GB. What do I use to wipe my ssd clean? As I understand it just formating the drive will not get rid of the data and it's almost full. I also am under the impression that SSD performance degrades when the drive is full of data.
The reason I overclock and play with all this stuff isn't really for the performance. It's mainly a hobby for fun and to learn, also the challenge of getting the absolute best I can out of what I have. These timings are something that I don't know anything about and am having a lot of trouble...
Does anyone know what my tRC should be? The XMP profile for my memory is 1600 8-8-8-24 CR-2T @ 1.6V. My memory right now is 1440 7-7-7-21 tRFC-80 CR-1T @1.6V. the tRFC being at 80 was set by my mobo since I don't know what it should be at but 80 seems way to high for me.
There are three different SATA controllers on this MB. ICH10R, a Gigabyte controller for a couple of the SATA2 ports and a Marvel controller for the SATA3 ports. I have the SSD on SATA0 which is controlled by the Intel South Bridge. The motherboard also offers the option to select either native...
I have my G.Skill Ripjaws set at 1440MHz 7-7-7-21. I don't know anything about the timings of memory beyond those first four and CPU-Z is showing my tRFC at 80 clocks. It seemed rather high compared to the other timings and knowing nothing about it I thought I'd ask what it should be. Thanks.
I have an Intel X25-m 80GB and a Gigabyte GA-X58-UD3R. I'm trying to install Win7 on the SSD but it is not being recognized during windows installation. The mobo recognizes the ssd in the bios. What am I doing wrong?
I just purchased a new mobo and am planning on OCing my i7-920. I was reading up on OCing since I haven't messed with anything of the sort in a few years and ended up downloading OCCT and playing with it a bit. I noticed that my voltages were odd in the monitoring section.
Here's a screen shot...
I'm a little concerned about the clearance for the memory since they have raised fins on top. Also the Mobo has a plate on the back and don't know what will work with it and what won't.
Right now I'm leaning towards this one:

First off, my current set up is a Dell desktop with an OEM mobo, 4GB 1333 OEM DDR3, OEM i7-920. I have added an Antec PSU, a GTX 260 216SP and an Intel X-25M 80GB over the last year or so and moved the whole rig into an Antec Three Hundred case. The OEM mobo does not support over-clocking or...
I noticed in this article:
http://anandtech.com/show/3656/corsairs-force-ssd-reviewed-sf1200-is-very-good
that there is a chart for 4k aligned random write but none for read. Is there no difference in read between 4k aligned and non aligned? Thanks.
My WD Velociraptor read at an average of 103MB/s. I installed a second and set them up in a Raid 0. Now they read at an average of 99MB/s. What gives? I have a Gigabyte ga-965p-ds3 mobo. The mobo has four yellow SATA ports and two purple ones. It seems logical to plug the HDDs into the two...
I want to buy a laptop for my wife that she can use at school. She also plays games like Sims 2 and other less intensive games. Which is more powerful, the ATI HD4350 card or the Intel 4500MHD integrated? Common sense makes me think that the card is better but I know that it's old and the Intel...
so i think i fried the board. i had it stable at 3GHz and i was gonna call it a night so i went into the bios and set everything back to stock. then i saved and exited. now it won't post at all. there's a little flash of life for a split second in the psu when i hit the power button but...

latest bios and drivers. i have moved it gradually and the best oc i can get is 2.8 from a 2.66 GHz proc. it's the fsb that won't oc because it won't boot at a FSB of 400 with a multiplier of 6. i've only oc'd on gigabyte mobos before and there are some settings on this asus one that i am not...
I just put a q9450 in a p5q pro and am trying to overclock it. i can't get it to boot at all. i have the cpu voltage set as high as 1.375 and the fsb set to 400 to give me 3.2Ghz which seems completely reasonable to me. the ram is 1066 mhz g skill set to 2.1v. why won't it boot like this?
i just took out my ide dvd drive and installed a sata one. now windows is installing fine without any bsod. im going to run memtest again but its looking better. before it would bsod in the first few minutes.
ive tried both of these. it's 4 GB of g skill 1066 and i ran it at 800. i also took out that memory and put in a 2GB 800 kit i had in another pc and got errors on test 7 as well. im running this on a p5q pro. do asus and gski ljust dont get along?
I am having a problem with the same ram and mobo as you. I am attempting to install windows on this new build but it keeps bsoding on me. memtest shows errors on both sticks individually for me though.
I just ran memtest 86 v3.4 on my two sticks of ram seperately. each one had errors on test 7. Over 100 errors on each. Is there something else that can cause errors in this test or am I just unlucky enough to have two bad sticks of ram out of two?
new development: so i shut down my pc then unplugged it from the wall. when i booted it i didn't lose its onboard lan like usual. so it looks like swapping the pci card wasn't the fix for it. the fix was pulling it from power completely and the pci swap was only working because i unplug my pc...
I actually don't have windows installed on the system anymore. I did a fresh install of ubuntu yesterday thinking that it was a software problem. So I'm using the generic driver from ubuntu to run the card. I can't believe I haven't thought of updating the bios yet though. /facepalm. i'll...
When I boot my computer my onboard LAN isn't recognized by ubuntu or windows. I have found a way to make it work though. If I insert a PCI NIC into my mobo on my next boot my onboard LAN will be recognized and work fine. On my next reboot it's no longer recognized. If I remove my PCI NIC it...
When I attempt to burn a cd in iTunes it says that "Disc burner or software not found...". I have looked at this online and it seams that the problem is most commonly caused by daemon tools. I have downloaded the latest version of SPTD as a fix as some forums recommended but to no avail...
I work at Best Buy and all of the new line of HP and Gateway Desktops have 2 outputs; one digital and one analog. The AMD ones use the HD3200. The Intel ones use nvidia mostly but they're all oem mobos that I can't find online.
I'm looking for a good mobo for and intel cpu that has two monitor outputs. I don't want to bother with a vid card cuz I'm looking to go cheap and easy.
