MSI K8TM no USB ports/hubs?

I had a computer with a VIA based AXP motherboard and CPU in an Antec Aria case. This ran XP+SP2 and had working USB. I then swapped the motherboard (MSI K8TM-ILSR) and CPU (A64 3000+), leaving all other components identical. I tried to boot Windows in safe mode to see if it would upgrade ok...

My Internet speed is 10 mbit up and down. I can get 100 MBit up and down, but that costs $120 a month. The 10 mbit costs $37 a month. It's an ethernet Internet connection, no DSL stuff. There's a Cisco router in our basement and a GBit fibre to the backbone. I do live in a civilized country. ;-)...

Does the NForce2 PCI/AGP lock affect performance???

100.0 % of all nForce2 overclocks use PCI lock since nForce2 locks the PCI at 33 MHz, no matter what you change in BIOS. AGP can be set to any frequency you like, regardless of your FSB setting, for example "locked" at 66 MHz, or you can overclock the AGP frequency without changing the FSB...

If you have checked all possible options, clear CMOS, follow the manual. If this doesn't work, it's time for RMA. It is a common problem still on A7N8X.

NForce2 - Can't Decide - Epox or Asus? (For OCing)

Up til now because for Epox there has been a NB voltage mod, but yesterday the Asus folks found the holy grail too, so for overclocking they are about equal now.

A7N8X Overclocking Results

What you should do is set a lower multiplier, like 8. Then you set RAM to Manual Sync. If you have PC2700 or better PC3200, you shouldd reach 166 MHz FSB and higher. Also, set AGP to 66 MHz, not Auto. Any A7N8X will reach 180 MHz, often you will reach 200 MHz FSB, as long as your RAM is PC3200...

AMD or P4? nForce2 or (845PE or e7205 (Granite Bay))?

Since you tend to think you can buy the best system today and stay with that for a couple of years, I can tell you you won't. You will upgrade the graphics card... then the HD... later the CPU... motherboard etc. Therefore I always buy whatever is low cost and gives much for the money. Right now...

I'm not doing anything wrong, I've flashed boards for ten years, I know how to do it. This board must have a faulty BIOS chip as it always gets this write error.

My ASUS A7N8X Motherboard Will Not Boot Up Now!

It is a common problem with A7N8X (I had one too!), some boards just die after a BIOS Save and Exit usually and are not possible to wake up, even with clearing CMOS. RMA it.

A7N8X dx fails flash write, HELP!

I've got an A7N8X Deluxe 1.04 bios 1001G and a Tbred-A 1800+, which is factory unlocked. It refuses to run anything else than 100 MHz FSB, no matter if I set the jumper to 100 or 133, no matter if I set auto, manual FSB etc etc in BIOS, nothing works. I read on forums the 1001G BIOS does this...

Well, it wasn't when changing the FSB, it was when I went in and disabled Firewire and some other things. It's just the Save BIOS function that is buggy. Like when I was at 175 MHz FSB and then change to 180, it still booted up 175, I verified with WCPUID. Then I go into BIOS and it says 180! So...

ASUS A7N8X-DX: Am I doing somthing wrong

When I first put in my unlocked Tbred-A 1800+ in my new A7N8X, it showed up at 1250 MHz or so. I then changed the 133 jumper to 100 MHz. Then booted into BIOS, change to 133 MHz FSB. Then changed back to 133 MHz jumper and booted into BIOS and set 133 MHz. Then it worked as 1800+. I think just...

I disconnected everything, CPU, RAM the works. I took the battery out and moved the CMOS jumper overnight, no change. I've sent the card back today, getting a replacement, but prolly not until after Xmas. But I love the board, it was totally stable up to 180 MHz, I didn't try higher before it...

My best guess is the Anand 6 nForce2 board roundup. After that, go to each manufacturers home page and find the specs for their board. Even my old ABit KT7 KT133 board has 3 phase power... still getting the 2 phase A7N8X now cause it is just so much for the money. If it breaks within two years...

Need advice between AMD or Intel

If you pick between XP 1800+ and P4 1.6A, you should chose the XP under all circumstances except if you plan on a lot of overclocking. The P4 1.6A will probably overclock to 2.0 GHz or more easily, if your motherboard can overclock the FSB and RAM as much. But the XP 1800+ a better performing...
