Anyone else think it's pointless to upgrade now?

Cool, I suppose the biggest bottleneck on a hd 4850 is bandwidth, so that should help out :) Still wondering whether the 8-pin connector makes any difference.

Anyone else using the ATI tray tools 1.5 beta for 4800s?

You probably can't go higher because the core lacks voltage to operate at higher clocks than 820. Some people can't even get their 4870 to run at 800 core...

Why are Most People Still Recommending the 4870?

In my country, Denmark, the cheapest 4870's go for 380 $ and the cheapest gtx 260's go for 470 $. If only the prices were equal, I would pick the gtx 260 simply because I like hardware with lots of overclocking headroom. But I simply can't justify paying 90 $ more for a 260 when a 4870 offers 10...

I think I would've done the same. There is no telling how much the prices will drop by then. And to be honest, is there enough demanding games except crysis which warrants a new gfx purchase at this point? Not if you ask me. WIth that being said, I still use one hour each day to check out...

Here in Denmark, the cheapest gtx260 is a XFX gtx260 for 400 bucks..the hd 4870 however can be purchased for 350. I wonder why the gtx260 is cheaper than a hd 4870 in USA but not in Europe? :S

Now, poor me hoped that my gorgeus orange/black coloured corsair vx550 pew pew psu would hold up for a video card upgrade (8800gt currently), but looking at load consumption of a single hd 4870 tells me that a vx550 will nothing but short when it comes to delivering enough juice for a 4870x2...

What about a 20'' widescreen 1680x1050? Seems like a hot-spot to me for a hd4850. Samsung has quite a few widescreens at that resolution with 2 ms response time (grey to grey). That's what I would go for :).

Buying New Graphics Card

No, a pci-e 2.0 graphics card does not need to slots, if that's what you're asking about :). One pci-e x16 slot will do. Either go for a 8800gts 512mb for 150 bucks or a hd 4850 for 200 Imo.

Newer Nvidia Forceware Drivers FSAA problem

with 169.21's, on XP sp2, I cannot force FSAA in UT3, Bioshock or gears. I know some people think that the unreal engine 3.0 only supports FSAA with dx 10, but that is a straight-down lie. I have seen with my own eyes that FSAA gets applied to both UT3 AND Bioshock aswell. FSAA sure did work...
