Need Advice on Overclocking 5820k

As a newb to overclocking, this is the question I'm struggling with. I'm finding that I can run stable at much higher clocks for my regular pc use, but if I stress test my pc in Prime95 the temps get very high. Is it better to run at the highest speed possible as long as your pc doesn't crash...

So given that, how should I change it? Should I just reduce the ratio and if so to what? Do I need to change the voltage or anything else?

Thoughts on my gaming pc build?

I'm confused. I just measured the height clearance on my Lian Li PC-777a (20th anniversary edition) case and I have maybe 170mm to work with. I've always thought it was a spacious case. I'm probably missing something obvious, but how are people fitting 240-280mm height coolers into their rigs?

Thanks mistersprinkles, what speed would you recommend for the RAM? The Asus X99-A looks like it has better sound implementation, what don't you like about the SLI Plus? Also what cooler do you recommend for mild-moderate OC?

Ok, I just downloaded extreme tuning utility and manually set the CPU ratio to x40. It got up to 68 with no load but is back to 60. Thanks for all of your help!

I'm less worried about instantly frying my CPU than about long term wear and tear on the CPU, ram, etc. Is that a concern or not really?

No DVI signal

I haven't made any additional changes since my last post, but for some reason the pc seems to be working fine now. If we do start having issues again, I'll check out the bios settings for sleep state. Thanks again for the help.

I recently installed an Asus Xonar DG sound card. Everything works fine, except when I use either the headphone or the headphone front panel settings. There is a constant static during 3DMark and games, but not when I play music. Any ideas on how to fix this?
