    Upcoming XPS 15 & Linux

I'm interested in hearing about or discussing whether Dell's upcoming 15" XPS laptops with the high res LCDs are going to be well supported by Linux/Ubuntu (13.04 or 13.10). I think the biggest concern would be if the GeForce 750M ships in an Optimus configuration, which I've heard is a...

560ti Artifacting, not sure it's the card?

Another quick question... Is there any way to reliably test all of my video memory? If the defect is found in the higher regions of my memory, is it not possible that the error would only manifest when the card is pushed to use those regions?

560ti Artifacting, not sure it's the card?

I have a multimeter, I should be able to do that if it gets to that. One thing.. My PSU is the Antec EarthWatts 500W. It has a double 6pin PCI-E connector on it. Would that be an issue at all? The store is using the exact same PSU model. So unless my PSU is defective, it just doesn't seem...

560ti Artifacting, not sure it's the card?

Airflow is not an issue. Especially considering the card barely works up a sweat in League of Legends...

560ti Artifacting, not sure it's the card?

Yes to latest drivers. I've tried newer demos. Because the issue is intermittent, it's hard to say. I used the 3DMark '11 demo without issue. Store is primarily using furmark it would seem. They can't get EVGA scanner 'cause they don't want to register a card. Although EVGA scanner on my...

560ti Artifacting, not sure it's the card?

Hey everyone, looking for some advice! I picked up a 560ti and have largely been very happy with it. One strange issue however is that I've been experiencing intermittent artifacting with it. It comes up even in a game as lightweight as League of Legends. Just long triangles shooting off of...

GTX 560 Ti Leaked Benchmarks/Info Thread

I'm hoping they keep the 1GB 560 around $200-$220. I'd really like to get an nvidia card this time around. I just built an i5 2500K. Despite leaning more towards nvidia (Linux), my last card was a Radeon 5670 and for a little $100 card, it was suprisingly powerful! Between my loyalty and...

GTX 560 Ti Leaked Benchmarks/Info Thread

$240 and $280 seems a bit steep for a card that's supposed to be "competitive".

nVidia begins accepting defective GPU claims.

This doesn't appear to be Canada friendly. Is there any way for a Canadian to take advantage of this, or will there be a similar effort shortly?

nVidia begins accepting defective GPU claims.

Awesome! My Inspiron 9400 has a 7900GS in it and it has malfunctioned! Glad I waited for this to play out. Hopefully they fix it with a card that won't just go and do the same thing.......

Geforce GTX 560 comes next year has 384 shaders. Rumours.

I'm really excited for 560. Looking forward to it. I just built a 2500K based machine and it is phenomenal. I think the 560 would be a perfect match for this system, and maybe another one in the future ;) Any idea when I might be able to get my hands on one of these? XFX, ASUS, eVGA? Who...

    SoCs for 2011

Yeah, and I think Tegra is going to be big-name enough to always have respectable performance in future releases as well. Which is another thing to consider...Will google eventually settle on a version for a year and only release minor updates ever? And I agree, I would love to see some wifi...

    SoCs for 2011

I'd like to see more of that as more devices become available. Obviously, while it's not possible to be objective about the SoCs from device to device, a rundown of the different devices as a whole will be in order. And that is ultimately going to be the only basis by which we'll be able to...

    SoCs for 2011

I think Anandtech should review the few SoCs that are here/coming out for 2011 and examine which devices they'll be showing up in. Things like Tegra, new snapdragons, marvell armada, hummingbird, motorola, etc... I'm fairly excited, it seems like 2011 is going to be the year we finally get...

    350W Proprietary PSU Pinch

I'd be interested in learning more about how that happens. I wouldn't say this PSU has been running 24/7 for 6 years however. It's spent a decent amount of time unused after about a year of solid use. (Which is why after coming upon some free parts I decided to use it!) All in all, I'm...

I'm not too sure I follow, can you elaborate a bit? :)

    350W Proprietary PSU Pinch

No overclocking for me, I wouldn't dare with such a confined space (in spite the decent cooling). The most I'll get done is Sins of a Solar Empire and World of Warcraft. Knowing that I've run this PSU for almost 6 years now, I'm pretty confident in it. I just wanted to make sure the newer...

    350W Proprietary PSU Pinch

I just came across a free Pentium D 3.0GHz. I have an old coolermaster Cavalier 3/4 Desktop case kicking around, so I figured I'd slap them together. The PSU in the Cavalier has the following specs (and his shamefully proprietary!!): Output Wattage: 350 Watt Mechanical Type: ATX12V-PS2...

    New system, stock overclock

Definitely. If I can pick up an ATI card that is quieter, cooler, less power hungry and from the sounds of it, vastly more powerful than the NV alternative in my price range....Why not? If it's on the shelf today and waiting for nvidia is potentially going to give me a headache (what if I have...

    New system, stock overclock

I'm good with any kind of stock overclock, I'm ultimately happy enough with whatever it says on the box. I suppose I'd just like to get the most out of whatever I end up buying. I wasn't sure whether to go for 2000 or 1600. If getting 1600 with better CAS would help me more, I'll gladly do...

    New system, stock overclock

I posted a thread a few weeks back looking for some opinions on putting together a relatively decent upper-midrange system. Lots of people chimed in and gave me some fantastic input. I'm hoping to get into some more specifics at this point as I close in on my options... Right now I'm...

What is your oldest working cpu

PIII 1GHz on a CUV-4X motherboard. Still chugging away as a home server. I loved this system the day I got it and it's still pretty decent. I always knew the Pentium 3 CPUs were little miracles. After all, Intel went back to them for inspiration on the Cores did they not? ;)

    Choosing a CPU: i5, i7. 1156, 1366...

I'm happy enough to wait until the end of the year to at least have a better picture of things. Right now is not the greatest time to build and March may only bring slight discounts to older technologies. While I think waiting for things to come out is futile, in this case I could see myself...

    Choosing a CPU: i5, i7. 1156, 1366...

I'll have to keep an eye on the Xeons at this rate. I never knew there was such a thing as a Xeon < $500 even! Strange, it somehow makes it too good to be true.

    Choosing a CPU: i5, i7. 1156, 1366...

I definitely agree and with the GF100 coming out then, they have a good reason to time it with new system builds. Although my price point will gladly accomodate any new hardware coming out. As I stated originally, April/March is my hope but I'll gladly play outside through summer if I have to...

    Choosing a CPU: i5, i7. 1156, 1366...

Both of them appear to be in the same price range. Wouldn't I want to play the numbers game then and go for socket 1366? The socket seems to decide whether I'm taking an on-die memory controller or an on-chip one. What about this 750S CPU I'm seeing on the nehalem wikipedia page? It's almost...

    Choosing a CPU: i5, i7. 1156, 1366...

I guess it boils down to which will overclock better, devour single threads and provide the best speed outside of the CPU then. For video & memory that is.

    Choosing a CPU: i5, i7. 1156, 1366...

Nah, I don't want to SLI. Single GPU is more than plenty for me. I thought I read somewhere that the cores & uncores are hooked up by QPI anyway... That would obviously make the newer 32nm CPUs a no-brainer. ESP. if they stock-overclock better?

    Choosing a CPU: i5, i7. 1156, 1366...

The 1156 is a Lynnfield, which has the off-die memory controller. Is there anything else about this CPU that can make up for this fact? Cost-wise the 1366 isn't very different *now*, which might help me out. Think there are any future price drops or a new CPU coming around March that doesn't...

    Choosing a CPU: i5, i7. 1156, 1366...

That's a really good point with the mobo+cpu. I definitely see the rationale there. Video cards and to a lesser extent RAM get updated less frequently and in my case require updates less frequently. That said, I tend to hold onto systems forever (I've still got a 1GHz PIII kicking around!)...

    Choosing a CPU: i5, i7. 1156, 1366...

Hey everyone! I'm hoping to get some help planning for a desktop CPU that's just-right. I'm looking around March or April to decide and buy as that's the release of GF100. First thing...Knowing that Sandy Bridge is coming, I wouldn't mind seeing if any choices I can make now would keep it...
