Tempting until you end up in the ER or a body bag. Of course not everyone is a dumbass on two wheels, I'd start small, that's all.

I'd like those wheels for my 70 New Yorker, they look pretty badass.

    Moderator, please lock this thread.

Ditto. I drove my dad's civic, holding the clutch for more than 5 seconds starts to get annoying after a couple lights. Neutral is the way to go. My dad shifts rather quickly, keeping it in neutral for any length of time is not problematic whatsoever, but to each his own I suppose.

Haha, deadlock vote results. :D I voted in the direction of a new car. 220k miles is overdoing it to keep something going past that mark.

Ditto on the meter maid. They're obviously trying to just pick up their ticket quota. It's unfortunate that this stuff has to happen, I don't really have an new ideas except for what some people said in the thread. School shop might not want it since it would be a total overhaul to get it...

    Distributor related question. (Coil)

Wow I can't believe I haven't mentioned the car, it's a 1970 Chrysler New Yorker. I'm doing an entire engine overhaul really, replacing a lot of parts that are corroded and such. Unfortunately $400 only gets me the distributor. I need an additional $80 for the 8.5mm wires, and $40 for a new...

    Distributor related question. (Coil)

I was thinking of picking up the kit from MSD for $400 that includes everything from the distributor and coil down to the spark plug wires, and it includes even higher quality wires than I have in there now, 8.5mm vs 8.0mm. I might even grab one of their ignition boxes so I can hook up a tach if...

    Distributor related question. (Coil)

Thanks for that useful tidbit of info, lots of good things that I'll keep in mind when re-doing the system. I was waiting to change the spark plugs until after I replaced the rest of the parts so that I would get maximum benefit, so I haven't looked at what my spark plug gaps are right now, but...

    Distributor related question. (Coil)

This particular 440 is a bit rich burning, which could just be the result of a failing coil, but I figure if I'm going to replace it I might as well upgrade it, right? Nice score on the parts, but I'm not familiar with any junk yards around here and I'd like to get new parts anyway for the...

    Distributor related question. (Coil)

They sell electronic distributor kits especially for this engine, New distributor, ECU, wiring harness, ballast resistor, and installation instructions, so I'm not worried about any of that. I just wanted to make sure that it was safe to use a higher voltage coil with this equipment. The...

    Want a sporty car

If Civic's appeal, you could get a used 2005/6 model for $6k that's a manual. My dad has one and it's very responsive despite the 117HP engine. It's also very economical, achieving 42 mpg if you drive conservatively. I don't know, just a thought.

Car won't start, got a new battery, turns over, tried to push start but that didn't work either

If your distributor ain't turning, that's definitely not a good sign. You could try connecting a spark plug directly to the coil and see if that's okay, but I would like to say that you need a new distributor.

    Distributor related question. (Coil)

I'd like to upgrade the distributor in my 1970 Chrysler 440 Engine with an electronic points-less one, and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to replace the original coil as well. Does a higher voltage coil require any additional equipment or a special distributor? Or is voltage...

Question About Using Monitor as a Display for Xbox360 and/or PS3

A VGA Input would let you pick resolutions, I'm assuming. I've tried an HDMI -> DVI cable and it has various resolutions to choose from, but there isn't any sound because of the way the connectors are set up. The VGA Cable is worth a try. PS3 can be setup in a variety of ways, including an HDMI...

What's the highest number you can put in the Windows calculator

I can do 50000 with a box popping up, but it completes after a few seconds of the box being there so it seems moot. The box will pop up and quickly disappear at around 45000. Pentium M 755 @ 2.71 GHz.

    E4500 or E6300?

I agree highly. I took the E4500 to 3.73 on very cold air, and the gaming improvement was not noticeable vs 2.8 GHz (and we're talking a 0.35-0.4v increase to go 1000 MHz further that will only be seen in synthetic benchmarks. There was a much larger difference in performance when I overclocked...

    E4500 or E6300?

Both will do 3 GHz, but the E4500 has an 11x multi, and will do 3.4 GHz without getting unreasonable with the voltage (and probably higher depending on the board and the cooler). I've had an E4500 with a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro that I was able to overclock to 3.4 GHz while keeping the chip...

Man slap two of these 120mm fans (440 CFM) on a TRUE

I've always wanted to strap a GFB1212VHW (120x76mm) Delta to a heatsink and see what it does. I have a fun idea for a GTX480 + 4 of those, Let's see if I can lift my case :D.

    best retail processor under $100?

I had a 4800+, it's a disappointing overclocker and the E2180 would far surpass it with a mild overclock that can be done on stock voltage and cooler. The E2180 will scream at 3 GHz, which it will most likely be able to reach with either no volt bump, or a small volt bump.

Memory bandwidth tests... any real differences (PC5300 vs. PC8888)

Yes, the methodology is technically incorrect, because you're running your memory faster than your system bus, so there will be minimal if any gains in this configuration. Nice try though, the problem here is that these chips don't need more bandwidth than they we're given to begin with...

    Somebody say something about Penryn!!

The problem with these modern day chips and such is that the overclocking game with mid-range chips has become somewhat expensive. I'm going with a celeron chip for my overclocking venture (45nm hopefully) so that I can get a multi of 10x or more, and not have to buy a $300 board to have...

Temps w/ new mobo are nuts!

Remember, with AS5, less is more. Try the razor application method, smoothing it out across the CPU surface with a razor or similarly thin object, so as to get a nice even thin coat on the CPU. I had noticeable temperature drops after I did this, almost 10C worth! Like I said, less is more.

    Nehalem, aka Bloomfield, looks Impressive

I'd be willing to say it'll be ~75% clock for clock faster than Penryn, with some nice improvements in efficiency. In regards to DDR3, I think it'll drop to reasonable levels by the time Nehalem sees the store shelves.

How Intel competed as a near-monopoly.. and why it's not fair

Tripled. The discussion is alright, but the topic in itself is redundant, and has been discussed the last ump-teen times when AMD and Intel we're competing with older products.

    Recomend a Case

Why does anyone need a 1KW PSU? You don't have 50+ HDDs do you? It only takes ~600W Max to power a quad core + 2900XT crossfire. I noticed theft protection in the list, and if you really want theft protection, then you want a case thats much less expensive than $250

Pull trigger on Q6600BO stepping or wait till November?

Its Penryn, and the Q6600s will probably drop in price, but the Penryn's will be cheap to manufacture, and thus be cheaper themselves. Depending on how badly you want new hardware, it's up to you. I'm waiting for Nehalems second revision.
