I just get a laugh out of people who think you need a confetti cut shredder for high security for your credit card bills etc that get tossed in the garbage.
Think about it. If someone is digging through trashcans looking to steal identities are they going to try to piece together strip...
I saw the 740 for $299 at www.cdw.com yesterday -- brand new and not refurb.
I tried one out from CC and it was OK (they still had it at $499). Screen is not the best I've seen plus there are apparently issues with the battery release mechanism and the sound recorder switch being placed in...
Great deal for $125 (or less).
However, you need to be aware of why all of these cheaper PocketPC deals are surfacing. The new MS operating system PocketPC 2003 is coming out within a month or so. It is supposed to be much better in terms of wireless support etc than 2002. Pocket Internet...
Bad news for those of you looking for wifi connectivity with this device. According to a review done by PocketPC magazine (see it online) this unit's MMC slot is not i/o capable. This means you can't use a wifi card in the E335.
Wifi is why I would switch to a PocketPC so I don't feel as bad...
The Optodisk Golds have a disc id of 'Optodisk' when I use DVDecrypter. I've been burning them at 2x using the hacked A05 firmware.
The hack makes it possible to burn any 1x DVD-R at 2x (of course if it is crap quality it may not work).

I've had mixed results with these disks. Pretty good luck with the ones in individual jewel cases, really bad luck with those in the 15 pack spindle (this is a 25 pks spindle).
I have a Pioneer A05 with the 2x4All 1.3 hacked firmware and it seems to like these discs better than using the 1.0...
The Khypermedia DVD-r's are a bit dodgy, in my experience. I've had a fair amount of success on the individually packaged ones, but the last spindle I bought was really bad -- coaster city.
They were all CMC discs.

The Bestbuy one that is 2110 is a Mintek 2110, which is very hackable. No region and Macr*vision hack is available.
Unfortunately, my local BB's have stacks of the CH model (Cyberhome) which only has a region hack available, so that is the likely candidate as I bought the last 2110 last night.

It's a real crap shoot on low end media. Even if it burns and plays on your burner, some cheapos can't be read by some machines. Or they flake out on the last 10 minutes of the disc when playing.
You can buy 15 Verbatim 2x DVD-r's right now at Bestbuy for $30 after a $5 rebate (or less after...
I've seen OEM copies of WinDVD at www.lsmicro.com for about $4.50 plus ship. I've seen OEM PowerDVD at www.ebccomputers.com for about $6.50.
I don't see why you would want to pay more for a pretty box.

I bought a 83+ from OD for $49.99 by getting them to price match Circuit City's $69.99 and using the $20 off $50 coupon.
After reading about how great the 86 was, I then traded it in at OM for an 86 for $10 more. (Credit of $99 towards $109 purchase). Didn't open the 83+ so I don't feel bad...
Or you buy a machine that can create both DVD-R and DVD-Ram discs for about $200 more.
You can buy a Panasonic DMR-E20 for about $600 right now or wait a month and buy the Prog Scan DMR-e30 in about a month for under $600 (right now you can preorder from eCost for $583.
The DMRe10 on Amazon is...
This thing is obsolete, that is why they are dumping it.
Hitachi just announced a camcorder that records directly on small format DVD-r for a list price of about $899. Therefore you could probably get one of these Hitachi DVD-r units for less than $800 that creates discs that can probably play...
Couple of points on this discussion:
1. Jammers do not work effectively in today's world. Some of the ones marketed don't do anything, they are just boxes with wires on them per auto magazine testing. One or two used to sort of work on K band or X band, but are obsolete because of the wide...
Just received a Verbatim badged Liteon (whoo hoo!) :-)
Haven't seen a clear explanation of why we need to flash Verbatim drives over to Liteon....
Why would I want to zero out my chances of getting it fixed under warrantee?
What features will I be missing with a Verbatim badged drive vs...
Oh yeah. I forgot that another 'feature' of the Terapin is that you can copy Macrovision protected tapes and DVD's with this machine 'for backup purposes only'. No need for a Macrovision stripper.
Given how many folks out there are ripping DVD's to VCD, this is a nice feature. You could rip...
Just bought a Terapin this week from Sam's for $199 and am quite happy with it. A real hot deal for the price.
I've made lots of VCDs via the other PC-based methods (real time and slow encoding) and the quality looks to be the same. The great thing about the Terapin is that it took me about 65...
I've been running XP for several months and have really liked the stability vs W98. However, a few days ago I lost access to the third (e:)of three partitions on my primary Maxtor 20 gig drive. I've run chkdsk and FixMBR from Recovery console, but still can't access. The disk info indicates...
Asked this before, but have had a couple of mixed replies...
Bought my inlaws a Dell that comes with a coupon for an XP upgrade for $20.
Can I use it on my non-Dell box by doing the usual registration thing?
One person said no, there is some sort of tie into Dells bios to prevent it...
What if I got the Dell upgrade to XP and tried to install on my non-Dell machine? Bought my inlaws a machine that is eligible to get an XP upgrade for $20, can I use that upgrade on my other machine by registering it?
I've heard it wont let me use it on another machine so I haven't pursued it.
jb
Bought my mother in law a Dell with WinMe on it the other day. It came with a coupon to upgrade to XP for $20 when issued.
Since she doesn't really need XP, I was wondering if I could use the upgrade on my Win98 machine (I know I will need to register it etc).
Question is:
Do you think the...
This has been going on for some time. I had a manager 4 years ago tell me that he didn't buy new computers, he just returned his computer every few years to Costco, got a refund and picked up a new one.
How you can live with yourself and do this, I don't know.
jb
Good price, considering that they came out at $180 6 months ago. Of course, one has to ask why the price has dropped so dramatically... Probably because it is a gimmicky camera. I bought one and tried it out and returned it. Ended up getting a 1.3 mp Canon S10 zoom for $170 on clearance at OM...
Noticed yesterday that a local OfficeMax has put tape over the 155% price match sign. Uncovered portions just indicate that they will just match price. Wonder if this is because local OfficeDepot and Staples quit the 155% game?
I know other locations in the US still do it, but looks like our...
Doesn't look like this deal pans out. From what I can see you get another cheaper shredder if you buy the one for $79 ($79!!). Might want to edit this one out.
jb
Tried one out. Cool gadget to show everyone, but rather useless.
Have to use your Palm lcd as viewfinder and it is really slow, muddy low res to try to frame your shot in. Doesn't fit in my Franklin case.
Pics came out OK for 640x480, but it is a memory hog. No flash makes it somewhat...
My search of usenet says that you can't use the 525 w/o macrovision unless you get a hardware mod, there are guys out there who claim otherwise, but other folks say the instructions are for a modded machine. I personally used my PC with a hollywood+ card :-)
Personally the 525 is a great...
Went into my local wal mart on Monday and asked if they had any flash card readers. The guy said yeah. I asked the price and he said $48. I asked him to scan it and I bought it for $14.
USB would be better, but paying $25 rather than $14 isn't worth it.
