It showed up as $54 for me last night. I just looked now, and its back to $55.99. Must have been a temporary drop, or some other glitch. Anyway, back to $15.99 AR :(
Been using a Sempron 2800++ on this motherboard for over a year, running Windows MediaCenter Edition 2005; works great. Goes to sleep and wakes up to record just fine.
Installed and runs fine on the first machine (3500+ on ECS KN1-Lite). Installed on a 2nd machine (a Compaq 1710nx), and got a BSOD. Found this, which is exactly the crash I get. I guess I'll have to get the hotfix mentioned.
I have two (both Samsung) that got shipped from Austin. They seem pretty bright and clear. Two things, though. They were both too red, so I had to turn the red down. Also, the viewing angle is not the best. I have them on my desk, and if I stand close to my desk so I have to look down on them...
Got a Samsung LTM190EX v4t05 as well.
As others have said, its pretty red. Had to tone it down a bit. Have it sitting next to my Samsung 191t+. Two monitors are nice...
EDIT: was shipped from Austin TX
Thanks, OP. Bought a Canon MP500 3 weeks ago, and now it is $5 less. I used the link provided and requested a refund. Got a response 13min later, telling me a refund for $5 will be credited to my credit card in the next few days. Easy!
Thanks, OP. Checked the Texas Unclaimed Property web site, and found I was owed a Best Buy rebate of $5. I friend of mine is owed over $20.
Funny thing, the records for both of us had our current addresses!
Anyone look at cooling this case through the vent slots on the back? Mine runs a bit hot because I have it in an entertainment center. I have cut holes out the back of the entertainment center, but it still seem warm. I'm thinking of getting one of those slot coolers, and mounting it so it blows...
I'm running the ECS KN1 Lite w/3500+ Fry's deal from a few weeks back, using Corsair ValueSelect PC3200 from NewEgg, no problems. Not overclocking, tho.
Got mine today. Very sturdy case, but several sharp edges. Yes, it's an old design, the PSU is date (doesn't have the 4-pin power, only 20-pin ATX power, no SATA), but it will work fine as an htpc. I think I will try to paint it black; the metal cover almost has a dark olive green color to it...
Just got email that it shipped via FedEx ground. FedEx site says it will be delivered on the 27th (ordered on the 18th). Not NewEgg, but not bad. Interesting thing, my order history shows the shipping method to be UPS.
Same pre-buy in North Austin, TX. However, the rebate forms all printed out, and they gave them to me. They couldn't tell me when the machine would come in, however. Hopefully, not too long, since the $200 rebate has to be postmarked by 2/6 (but doesn't require a UPC, so I guess I could send it...
Yeah, I bought that combo before I bought the KN1 Lite combo, but I'm returning it. Seems like there are/were USB issues and performance issues with the ATI southbridge (SB400). Seems like there is a new southbridge, the SB450, SB600, or even a ULi soutbridge that is better. From what I can...
Got my KN1 Lite/3500+ combo up and running on my workbench. Antec SP350, XFX6600GT, Corsiar 1GB, Seagate 120GB. Installed XP Pro just fine. Even supports S3 standby (suspend to ram, sleeps with fans off). Haven't tried overclocking, but seems nice and solid so far.
Don't know if the cooling is adequate, but I do know that the retail fan is hard to get off once installed (the thermal interface material acts like glue). There are many reports on the net about people ripping the CPU out of the socket when trying to remove the HSF. Some report using a hair...
Picked up a combo. Got a 3500CGBOX Venice, which I guess is an E4 stepping, and a NewEgg comment said that the voltage was fixed at 1.35V (not 1.35/1.4V, like the 3500BPBOX is).
Available in Austin, TX.
I'm also wondering how good this mobo is. I saw some postings that said it was just like the Extreme, minus a few features (such as firewire, extra SATA controller). Looking at the manual, the overclocking features seems the same. Only one Ethernet, with looks like it...
I replaced a K7S5A with a Foxconn 748K7AA, and WinXP handled the upgrade very well. The 748K7AA seems like a pretty good board. My only gripe was it didn't support S3 sleep (fans off), even though Foxconn's web site said it did at the time (they have corrected the web site since). Don't expect...
I've had good luck with ECS boards. Built around 15 systems. The only problem I had was with the K7S5A - now that was a troubled mb - both I had turned out to have problems with losing bios settings.
Great thread. This would have been very helpful had I seen it last week when buying two motherboards for another project (turns out I had selected the Chaintech VNF4 Ultra, but this thread would have saved me a lot of time).
One thing that would be very good in motherboard reviews is whether...
Is it just me, or does the motherboard no longer show up? When I go to the link in the OP, it says there is a free motherboard, but there is nothing to click on to see what it is. And when I add it to the cart, just the processor shows up.
S3 is a standby mode also known as "suspend to ram". It's a way of making an "instant-on PC". Power is turned off on everything except the memory (and optionally USB devices, like an infrared remote), which is kept alive by the +5vsb standby voltage. In this way, the PC is almost completely off...
Actually, I returned my 755-A2 combo after I opened the mb box when I read that S3 didn't work. I never installed anything, didn't even take the mb out of the bag. They slapped the "return" stickers on both the CPU and the mb boxes. On the other hand, I see boxes at Fry's all the time with items...
