Correlate Windows drive letters to physical drives?

Simple. Just put a file like C-drive.txt, D-drive.txt, etc. on each HD, shut down your computer, and then look inside each HD for the files.

Please compare LGA 2011 to LGA 1155

Trot out your specs and we'll match it to some Z77 systems to see who would win that bet. While you're at it, trot out how much your system cost and we'll compare that as well. *edit* Saw your sig. Well, with 3 HD7970s, I wouldn't be surprised if it performed better than Z77 systems in games...

    Samsung 830 worth $35 more than Crucial M4 (256G)?

Thanks for the info, and the new 840 does look very nice from the specs. I'll wait until it hits shelves here and make a decision between the 830 and 840.

    Asrock pro4 vs extreme4?

The horizontal SATA ports are the reason I'm excited to get a new mobo - got a new GPU and I had to remove a hard drive because the longer card blocks one of the ports.

    Samsung 830 worth $35 more than Crucial M4 (256G)?

I usually order everything from internet retailers and AFAIK there's no difference which part of the country you're in (other than shipping maybe) so I'm not sure how much regional difference there would be. Here in Victoria (pop 350k) there's one store that has a limited inventory in stock...

    Samsung 830 worth $35 more than Crucial M4 (256G)?

When it comes to computer parts things are always more expensive due to us having a tenth of your population, even when our currencies are at near parity. For instance, Newegg US has the ASRock Z77 Extreme4 mobo for $135 regular price. Newegg CA has it for $180.

    Samsung 830 worth $35 more than Crucial M4 (256G)?

I'm in Canada - Samsung 830 is $230 and Crucial M4 is $195. Machine is going to be Win7x64 for is web development and design, some gaming, and a couple of VMs (those might be on a traditional HD). From the bench comparison, looks like the 830 is the better drive overall, but I don't want...

does any one run 3x 7970 video cards. if so what mobo

For 3x I use a Gigabyte H61M-DS2H. The 4th 1x pci-e slot right next to the 16x doesn't work for whatever reason, but most boards with 4+ pci-e slots should work from what I've read. The mining forum on bitcointalk is going to be a better place for answers.

MSI 7950 turning on monitor causes all windows+taskbar to shift to other monitor

Wellllp, after a lot of searching, looks like Windows is just terrible with its handling of displayports. So to anyone in the same boat you have two options: 1. Create an Eyefinity group - when the DP monitor is turned on, the windows+taskbar will shift, but the AMD software will move them...

MSI 7950 turning on monitor causes all windows+taskbar to shift to other monitor

I'm running win 7x64, in extended display mode. One monitor connected through displayport (DP), and the other one through DVI (DVI) set to primary desktop monitor. If I have windows or the taskbar on monitor DP and turn it off and then back on, monitor DVI goes black for a second and then all of...

    Why is everything x1080 now?

edplayer: See? There are no pixel values on these diagrams, yet it conveys all of the data needed to have a discussion about different aspect ratios.
  14. L

    Why is everything x1080 now?

Maybe I wasn't clear enough when I said "With that [the horizontal + vertical pixels], we can get an aspect ratio and then ignore pixels altogether" Since we're comparing aspect ratios, it doesn't matter what the original pixel values were once we determine them. It complicates things...
  15. L

    Why is everything x1080 now?

What you're missing is that pixels don't matter, just the aspect ratio.
  16. L

    Why is everything x1080 now?

The number of vert pixels on monitor A compared to the number of vert pixels on monitor B is a worthless comparison without the horizontal. With that, we can get an aspect ratio and then ignore pixels altogether.
  17. L

    Why is everything x1080 now?

Depends on how the game scales FOV wrt. aspect ratio. Going from 16:10 -> 16:9, games should expand the areas on the side, not crop the top+bottom, as humans have a larger horizontal FOV.

    LGA1156 board with DDR2 + DDR3?

I've got an E4400 build with 2x4GB of DDR2 right now and I'd like to upgrade to an i5. I was hoping to just get the cpu+mobo for now to cut down on costs. I've heard somewhere that there are boards that will do both, but I can't seem to find any through teh Googles.

My e4400 needs a HSF reseat or lapping?

That is a wealth of information there and it seems pretty legit. Anyway I should be picking up some TIM soon and I'll try reseating the Ninja and maybe lapping it. Thanks for the help.

My e4400 needs a HSF reseat or lapping?

I'm reading your post right now, aren't I? And as I haven't been able to read anything official (read: sourced form Intel) about the E4400's TJunction, reading posts is the only process by which I can come to conclusions. Anyway, back to the matter at hand: I'm sitting at a delta of 25c under...

My e4400 needs a HSF reseat or lapping?

SerpentRoyal - if CoreTemp says 75c when using a YL@7v and 73-74c when using a TriCool@79CFM, I can infer either that my YL is putting out quite a bit of CFM for an undervolted fan, or that the Ninja doesn't benefit from higher airflows. Either way, putting a higher-CFM fan in there isn't the...

My e4400 needs a HSF reseat or lapping?

No, but AFAIK it uses TJunction to calculate the temperature of the chip. CoreTemp incorrrectly reports TJunction as 100c when it should be 85c. Also, try reading my first post regarding a YL @ 7v versus my Antec Tricool at full blast (@79cfm). The Ninja is an efficient cooler in low air flow...

My e4400 needs a HSF reseat or lapping?

Coretemp is reporting a TJunction of 100c and a temp of 75c, while Speedfan is reporting a TJunction of 85c and a temp of 60c. I've looked into CoreTemp vs. Speedfan and I think Speedfan is reporting the correct temperature here, but in either case I wouldn't like to have less than a delta...

    Computer stores in Montreal?

GST and then QST are not included... which makes it around $52 total. I buy online from NCIX.com all the time, as they have great service, they price match, and their location in BC saves me 8% tax. I just wanted a wireless card so I could ditch my 6 year old laptop and use my new C2D system...
