Start up hang.

I don't profess to be the expert here but after the first winME splash screen and then the black screen that follows the OS is still loading. Only after that is where the network connection takes place. I believe it is PC specific hardware that is conflicting based on the original description...

I believe you have a conflict of drivers. Not a IRQ conflict necesarily, but a memory address or I/O conflict. The pause at that point is the OS trying to sort it all out. Has the Nic or the sound card been forced into the settings you have them in? If not, I'd un-install the sound card and...

Should I upgrade my bios or not............

Never fix what ain't broke! Especially bios. Sometimes they are a blessing to fix little quirky things, and sometimes they introduce a whole new set of problems. I'd let it alone if you don't have any problems. of course that's just my opinion! Firefly

How do I setup Direct Serial connection between 2 PC's???

better check drivers for the laptop hardware before you bite that one off... even if you did get the cab files transfered to the laptop to do a hard drive install of windows, it may not load correctly or run without drivers. Laptops, especially older ones are a lot harder to get drivers for...

System won't boot, does it have anything to do with CMOS battery? NEED HELP PLZ.. :(

I agree with minnie also that the p/s needs to be tested. Can you try a different p/s? How old is it? The battery won't keep the computer from POST, it will just boot up with default CMOS settings. Do you get any beeps? Firefly

Does it hang the same way when booting into safe-mode? Just curious if it's software or hardware related. Do you show to have any conflicts in device manager or have you recently added a new card or device? Have you modified CMOS in any way lately? Did it just start? Firefly

Looking for good internal modem for win2k

NFS4, I just tried the driver you gave me a link to. It wouldn't work either. Win2k informed me that this was not the correct driver for this device. I did notice that the drivers had "NT" in them. Now I'm not sure, but is this correct? Should they still refer to NT? Thanks Firefly :|

Thanks to all. My Maxtech is a Conexant modem, but when I install the modem in Win2k, the modem is detected, and I've actually downloaded a couple of different drivers for Conexant modems. I've even tried to use one that comes with win2k. Same thing both ways. Win2k tells me that this driver...

aha...I think I may have solved my problem...Ifinally did a little investigating around in cmos and found the option to change the IRQ asignments to specific PCI slots. I finally got my modem on 9 and my two USB bus's on 12. Life is good. I know that the tech info sites say they should share...

Are there Win2k drivers for the Maxtech XPVS56/SP 56k Winmodem?

I have the same modem. Mine has a Rockwell chipset. Per a confirming e-mail from a partially staffed tech support team at Maxtech...they have gone out of business. No new drivers will be issued. They are only going to be around for a few weeks cleaning out the last of their stuff. I suggest...

I don't know if this will help, but check your cmos settings for assigning an IRQ number to VGA. Should be enabled. Good Luck Firefly:)

Before you install any of the drivers from VIA's 4-in-1 driver set, I suggest you read up on the KA7 board at the following site. It really helped me. I alsi suggest you go to Abit's ftp sire and download the new "RY" beta bios. I love it...
