Keeping top performance on Samsung SSD

Vista Performance, Compatibility and Reliability Packs are out

That's probably because the sleep fix is in the Compatibility pack (938194) I installed both yesterday and my black screen problem is now gone w/ Geforce 8500GT + Vista x64. :)

Vista fast sleep

Changing the "Shut Down" button in Vista

Well, the whole point is that it is not 'on' when it is sleeping. Do you use S3 sleep mode (turns all fans off, etc). Since you 'usually just turn it on to check the forums or my e-mail', wouldn't you rather have it turn on in a couple of seconds instead of a minute+? According to...

32 or 64 bit vista?

Not necessarily - that rumor spread rapidly and incorrectly. They stated that their server OS's (after Windows Server 2008) would only ship in 64-bit. There have been no statements about future client OS's (i.e. Vista successor)...

Vista Boots and Shuts down slow

You might want to check out the Event Viewer to see what is slowing down the boot/shutdown process. Start -> Event Viewer Then in the tree view, select: Applications and Services Log > Microsoft > Windows > Diagnostics-Performance > Operational Then sort the task category and look...

I'm buying another unit...

Completely depends on if you are comfortable with overclocking. The E4300 can probably be taken to 3.0Ghz pretty easily and is roughly 20% faster clock for clock than the X2. So you could really get a lot more performance for your dollar that way. If you don't plan to OC, than the X2 may...

E4300 Overclocks?

Got mine up to 3.0GHz even on stock voltages. I tried it out at 3.15GHz but had to bump the voltages up to get it stable - I got to 1.368V to run 25 mins stable when I decided that I'd sacrifice a bit of speed in order to keep the temps down. Gigabyte 965P-DS3 2GB G Skill F2-6400CL4D @...

Vista fast sleep

I had many of the same issues as folks on this thread - when resuming from sleep the computer would come "on" (power light), but nothing on the screen. I'd usually have to reset (or sometimes even cut the power) for it to come back. My build: Gigabyte 965P-DS3, Core 2 E4300, GeForce 8500GT...

Gigabyte has released a passively cooled 8500GT for around $100... they are out of stock but should be back soon. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125062 Now that RV610/630 have been delayed until June, I'm going to just take the leap on a 8500GT for my new rig...

whats the best passively cooled video card i can get?

E4300 - better to run at 1:1 ?

I think the reason most people recommend 1:1 is that it allows you to get to higher processor speeds without pushing the RAM past 800MHz. If you're happy with 2.7GHz I don't see any reason to not use 3:4 assuming your RAM is rated for that speed.

Just saw newegg selling E4300 at 135 a piece

Yeah, saw that too... it's been on a pretty steady drop from around $160 the last couple of weeks. Hopefully it will get close to $113 in the next few weeks.

True. It looks like MSI never released any passively cooled 7600GS cards so maybe some of the other manufacturers will once they catch up. Regardless, I'm going to wait to see what RV610/630 bring before buying.

Direct X10 dates?

E4300 OC on stock voltage?

I don't have an E4300 but have done a lot of reading in preparation of picking one up after the price cuts. From what I've seen around, I plan to start at 2.7GHz on stock voltage (300x9). My goal is to get it up to around 3.15GHz (350x9) on no more than 1.45V. I plan to use an aftermarket...

Seeing the April 22nd price drop

The E4300 has dropped from around $170 to $140 at NewEgg already. Still far from the $113 it's supposed to hit, but some progress... Oh well, waiting to see what the next-gen video cards bring anyway.

How to Oclock 4300 w/ Gigabyte 965 DS3?

Here is another pretty good guide - made specifically for E4300 and DS3 which is nice: http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=610&p=1 The only confusing thing is that they talk about mem running at 722MHz then later at 965MHz, without mentioning that this implies changing the CPU/RAM...

E6320, E6420, & E4400 - all NOW AVAILABLE

Crazy thing is that the E4300 is $185 at the same store! I want the lower multiplier on the E4300 unfortunately... hopefully they will drop to around $120 in a month or so.
