  1. SSD MS Latency vs IOPS

We have a server side application that has fairly tight tolerances to read latency, we need reads to be always under 5ms, 10ms at the absolute worst. And given x number of servers with X number of drives how many IOPS can we handle before latency falls out of tolerances. I'm working on setting...
  2. SSD MS Latency vs IOPS

Hi, I'm trying to find a graph that shows how SSD latency scales up as IOPS increases. I assume as the disks get more IOPS the latency would slowly scale up but I can't find any graphs to confirm this. The closest I've found is here...
  3. Focusing on World Community Grid

Looks like the team broke into the #90 place!
  4. Weekly stats for June 10, 2012

    Thanks for the stats!
  5. WCG - Status "Download failed". No estimated time listed.

If you can abort it, then I would. I've not seen that with my WCG work units, I think its a bug on their end though. Is it all your WUs? I'm also attached to WCG but am having no issues.
  6. SIMAP for June 2012 is underway!

Sweet, we're gaining on #8! I've got a little more work in my queues so all my hosts are still crunching away. =) Also if you missed it, SIMAP said they are having a 24 hour power company outage so they are currently down.
  7. SIMAP for June 2012 is underway!

Seems to be out of work for the moment. This work set shows that its only 60% complete so I think more should be out soon.
  8. Poem@Home GPU

I edit my xml file too. Err and it looks like I remembered wrong, i only had 5 tasks?? Later I'll check my other host maybe it had 6 and I edited this machine wrong... But anyways. <app_info> <app> <name>poemcl</name> <user_friendly_name>POEM++ OpenCL</user_friendly_name> </app>...
  9. Bond Markets Say US Debt Doesn't Matter

Exactly! For example look at Black Wednesday. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Wednesday
  10. Bond Markets Say US Debt Doesn't Matter

Yes stocks would still have higher rates but the average american doesn't understand investing enough to really do stocks or mutual funds. I think most end up with Gov bonds or CDs or some awkward financial product that gets sold to them. If there wasn't the 2% inflation they probably wouldn't...
  11. Bond Markets Say US Debt Doesn't Matter

0% wouldn't be ideal. If inflation was targeted at 0% there would be a lower incentive to invest it. Basically a 2% inflation rate forces you to attempt to invest it some where productive so it doesn't devalue. Its one of the big issues in Japan, they have a huge savings rate but no one invests...
  12. Bond Markets Say US Debt Doesn't Matter

I think Japan is a great example of the risks America is heading toward. Our countries have so many similarities, political gridlock, near zero-interest rates, limited or stagnant growth, aging populations. Hopefully the things that will pull us out are our more nimble workforce, Japan has a...
  13. The skills gap myth: Survey reveals why companies can’t find "good people"

I've seen this a lot. A company wants a younger person, so they can pay less and aren't so set in their ways, yet they also want 10 years experience. Its just not going to happy.
  14. Bond Markets Say US Debt Doesn't Matter

I must say, work ethic and productivity are completely different. Productivity is amount of output divided by the input. If a ditch digger in 1940 could dig 8ft a day and today he can dig 80ft with a backhoe then productivity went up. Even if the backhoe operator might be fat and lazy. And...
  15. SIMAP for June 2012 is underway!

Why is formula boinc different from regular project rank?
  16. Weekly stats for June 3, 2012

Well I just moved my gpus off to Collatz and put the CPUs on SIMAP while there's still tasks there. Go SIMAP Go!!
  17. SIMAP for June 2012 is underway!

    Super job! I'm joining in too, 3x i7s and 2 Q6600s.
  18. Poem@Home GPU

On my 2 6950s (in different hosts), I'm running 6 POEM tasks and 2 Neurona tasks on i7 cpus. The POEM tasks are pretty inefficient so they need a whole processor core to feed them, without and you can really see the GPU usage lower a lot. With 6 POEM tasks, all 6 take about 50min so I'm doing 6...
  19. Post the milestones here!

    Go Poem!
  20. Poem@Home GPU

I'm starting to get tired of not being able to use the CPU cores for other work. I might swap projects once I hit 10M so I can run WCG on the CPUs.
  21. Focusing on World Community Grid

I put 16 cores on it too. Lets see what it'll turn out.
  22. Neurona@Home - Invite Code!

It needs about 2GB per thread. But they lock it to 2 threads per host, so if you wanted to use up 12 threads you'd need virtual machines.
  23. Neurona@Home - Invite Code!

Our team rank here is 20 and with just 500 ppd we are catching 7 other teams (although slowly), with a little more oomph we could really do a lot on this project! If you have 8GB ram it shouldn't cause swapping, what is your memory usage after the tasks have been running some, shouldn't be...
  24. Poem@Home GPU

    Rawr! Off to the races.
  25. Server for tiny office...

How many files do they have? You could just setup dropbox on each machine to sync shared documents between them all and not have any server at all. It'd also have a web copy of the documents for backup.
  26. windows 8 won't support DVD or Blue Ray playback

When is the last time you got to pick a desktop OS? There is no choice in the matter, buy a dell and get Win8.
  27. Is Obama really a bad president?

Great, now they can go work at wind farms.
  28. Food Stamp / Welfware Reform

Although I agree that competing against each other would run some out of business, after they left the prices would recover to a sustainable price. The reason there are to many farmers isn't because of how good they are, but because false subsidies raise the value of many crops when the market...
  29. Any Davek Umbrella users out there?

This thread makes me feel very ignorant. I didn't even think a $100 umbrella existed. I've never lived anywhere that I even needed to purchase an umbrella.
  30. Sigh. my daughters summer project for school..

I can help with that. Duck is my favorite.
  31. People lose money, too bad; banks lose money, they sue

Depends on how big the item is. Not worth the effort for $50 in gas, but if its a thousand dollar loss I sure would try.
  32. Is a truly free market system actually a good thing?

He must live in France where all this is true.
  33. Post the milestones here!

    I have 2x 6950. and 1x GTX 460. If I ever get a chance I'll flash my 6950 to the 6970 firmware, but I've not had time.
  34. Focusing on World Community Grid

Does WCG have any GPU apps or just CPU? I need to get my credits up on here, I've been working on my average team rank across projects and my WCG rank is awful.
  35. Post the milestones here!

I had a pretty great weekend. Donate@Home - 50,000,000 MilkyWay@Home - 5,000,000 Also pretty happy that between just me and MK, we got Donate@Home up to Rank 21. Although I just moved my GPUs off so this might start dropping.
  36. New Einstein@Home Application for ATI/AMD GPUs!

This totally answered my question before I could ask it. I was scratching my head at why this wasn't working after I did a driver and boinc update and was about to ask for your advice. Edit: Also I think resetting the project will cause it to resend you your current work with the next GPU...
  37. Looking for best / easiest Linux firewall.

I've used pfSense in a few environments, and also vote for it. And PCTC2, that script is pretty awesome. I'm going to play with it on my rails servers, and maybe tie it into Capistrano so I can push the ban list across all my hosts.
  38. decommissioning main rig

My dual GPU rig also runs about 80-90C, but if I pull one of the cards out it cools way down. I think the PCI-E on most mobos are so close together that there is near zero airflow. I think power draw and heat output will be same either way though, its just getting more intense on the card before...
  39. The New Digital-Electric Web Thread for SimOne@Home

I'm avidly looking forward to more work from them too. I jumped up to 5k really fast and then work ran out. I'd like to get 25-50k at least.
