32 bit is no longer valid

I've been running Vista 64-bit for the past 6 months and I haven't had any compatiblity issues yet. There were a few minor issues but they seem to have been resolved by hotfixes and BIOS updates. Regarding the topic of which OS to use for testing, I do agree that as system memory and...

    Watercooling a Lian-Li v1000

First off, aigomorla, thanks for the replies. Now I did a rough plan of a top mounted 2x120mm radiator, based on what I've seen other people do. Picture Theres a small issue with this setup though. -Radiator is mounted near the front of the case: I lose a 5.25" bay. This isn't really...

buy a computer from my friend for $850.00

Seems like a great deal. Though my sentiment regarding the topic is similar to the previous posters. Perhaps it would've been more appropriate to ask such a question before making the purchase.

What do you do with your retail HSF?

Maybe I'm missing something here, but doesn't Intel require the complete package- heatsink et al. when you RMA. At least this was the case when I got my e6420 replaced. So wouldn't the most logical thing be to store it somewhere safe? Or has eveyone here already voided the warrenty on the...

    Watercooling a Lian-Li v1000

I know, there are already hundreds of watercooled v1000's out there. But I wanted some opinions on the one I have planned out. First of all I have no experience with watercooling. I read aigomorla's guide to watercooling, but my ideas on watercooling are still very naive and so when I...

    Stability Issues After Increasing Memory

Chizow, 1) BIOS is now fully updated. 2) I installed Vista updates for 4GB+ ram shortly after I installed the new sticks as I google'd the problem and this was what most were suggesting. 3) Haven't increased NB voltages yet. I don't think I'll ever increase memory voltages as 2.2v is...

    Stability Issues After Increasing Memory

Hmm, I hadn't really considered raising the voltage on the NB and SB. I'll have too look into a bit more, though I'm sure it shouldn't be too much a problem as the board already has active NB and SB cooling. Still to be on the safe side: Is there a recommended increment that I should use...

    Stability Issues After Increasing Memory

I've added 2x 1GB more ram to my system, and now I'm experiencing some stability issues that I've never had. Computer lock-ups, black artifacts on the monitor (only on boot up as the Vista Login Screen shows up), and even a couple BSOD's. I'll try to give as much detail as I can. Original...

    Finally got the Enzotech Ultra-X

Thanks for the replies though I do feel they patronized me a bit for assuming I don't know how to install a hsf. But I must apoligize because I was mistaken. The Ultra X will not fit regardless of orientation. However this isn't a case issue. (Well sort of but no really.) In fact it turned...

    Finally got the Enzotech Ultra-X

I received my Enzotech Ultra from Jab-tech 2 days ago, but I realized that it was impossible to install. My lian li pc-v1000 has an upside down motherboard layout leaves no space between the edge of the CPU side of the motherboard and the divider that seperates the mobo from the lower section...

Hard Drive is making rapid clicking noises.

I ran HD tune, but the error scan came back with zero errors. Also the many of the reviews about the raptor at newegg comment about the click but still give it 5 eggs. There are similar opinions at HardForum. This makes me wonder, are these people ignorant or is the raptor supposed to have...

Hard Drive is making rapid clicking noises.

I heard Western Digital Raptors were loud drives, but I think there may be a problem with my drive. For a while now it's making been making clicking sounds. At first I thought it was a wire making contact with a fan blade, but when I opened my case it was clearly coming from the hardrive. I can...

    Older technology?

I was at my university and I had some spare time so I decided to go to the one of the on campus computer labs to check my e-mail. When I got to the computer lab the all the computers looked ancient compared to my new built computer at home. But to my surprise when I started using the computer...

Lian Li: I don't get it...

I don't think Lian Li cases are boring at all. Well atleast not my v-1000. But then again I'm the kind of person who can't stand flashy led lights. Also the sliver finish matches the rest of my furniture nicely. And regarding support in the U.S. I bought my Lian Li from Silver PC's in Brea...

Cannot boot from 2nd Drive with XP installed

I'm getting mixed messages here, but either way it seems that I can't boot from my 2nd hard drive. I guess I'll have to buy XP then. (I'm starting to see why people dislike microsoft). Thanks for that info though.

Cannot boot from 2nd Drive with XP installed

Currently I have a Sata drive with Windows Vista in my computer. I took the drive from my previous computer which is an IDE drive with Windows XP installed. However when I install the 2nd drive and attempt to boot from it I keep getting BSOD's. I heard there was a known issue with Sata and IDE...

Which of these graphics cards is faster?

As far as I know evga only offers cards that are of equal or better performance. I'm running a 7950 GT KO 512mb right now and I'm very happy with it.

    Hard Drive Help

I have a very similar problem. Except for me the Sata Drive (with Vista installed) was used when I built the computer and now the added IDE drive (with XP pre-installed) gets BSOD's on boot. I guess I'll be watching this thread.

Is there really any need for a floppy drive?

I've used a floppy 3 times so far. Once to flash the bios, then to run memtest, and just the other day I used it to repair my boot loader.

    dba ratings and examples?

I was thinking of the YATE LOON 120mm Case Fan - D12SM-12 - Medium Speed which is rated at 70.5 cfm and 33 dba. But my Lian Li case fans which are actually ADDA fans are rated at 72.0 cfm and 34 dba. So apparantly there isn't much difference specs-wise. I don't know anything about ADDA...

Vista has mouse freedom in windowed mode games?

I've been having a lot of trouble playing games in windowed mode (not full screen) on windows vista. Whenever the mouse pointer reaches the near or at edges of the game window the mouse exits the game and is actually functioning at the desktop. For instance when I click near the top of the...

    dba ratings and examples?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section; I was sure but I thought I'd post it here since its fan related. I'm thinking of upgrading the 3 120mm fans in my case and I wanted to have some examples of dba ratings. So wikipedia gives a pretty good explanation of how ratings work, but I would like...

    Best Low Profile CPU cooler

I'm looking for a low profile (about the same height or slightly taller than the stock c2d coolers) fan and heat sink. I'm looking for one with the face of the fan parallel to the CPU. This is for a Lian Li PC-V1000 and I would prefer to maintain the airflow pattern Lian Li engineered as well...

Do you still save a lot of money by building your own PC?

I think it depends on how you're making your comparison. I just spent $1400-$1500-software included on my new computer and it's very similar to the PowerSpec X300 which retails at 1999.99 at my local microcenter. Same case (mine is silver) same graphics card, i have e6420 and it has e6600, but...

    Mouse and keyboard

Here's my two cents on wireless products. I own the Logitech Dinovo (not edge) and the MX revolution. Both are pretty good. And I would recommend both. However I can't say how reliable the keyboard connection is because I don't type that fast (around 50-60wpm). Perhaps if I typed over 100+ wpm...

PSU required for overclocking and SLI

Well I orignally said excluding the 8800 series because of their much larger power consumption. I was thinking more like the geforce 7 series (again excluding the top tier dual gpu models). Or did you mean that regardless of the SLI configuration, both the 520 and the 620 are insufficient...

PSU required for overclocking and SLI

This has probably been asked before, but the search didn't turn up any results. Would the corsair 520w be sufficient in overclocking an e6420 to 3.2GHz with graphics cards (excluding the 8800's and the GTX/X2's) in SLI or would I need the 620w?

    Corsair XMS memory quality?

How is the quality of Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4? Here With the $50 rebate they look like a good deal and I always see good reviews of the memory quality and speeds, but nearly 1/4 of all customers seem to end up with atleast 1 dead/bad stick. Does corsair have really bad quality checks, or...

All versions of Vista 50% off at closing compusa stores

I don't have any information regarding closeout stores, but I have a couple questions. So you don't need any previous windows versions at all to do a full install if I buy an upgrade? And if I buy a 32-bit vista can I step up to a 64-bit, and still install the 32-bit from the 64-bit dvd if...

    Questions regarding a new build.

Thanks for your input. Actually I already bought both the video card and motherboard, and I doubt I can return them as I've already cut out the UPC's for the mail in rebates. However the reason I didn't choose the 8800gts was because I didn't want to pay over $300 upfront for a video card...

    Questions regarding a new build.

I'm building a new computer and I've pretty much decided on everything except for the case.
