DDR can come in either SDRAM or SGRAM. Infineon currently supplies most of RAM for GeForce boards in 32mb DDR SGRAM 6ns. However Hyundai has recently caught up with them in producing enough SDRAM DDR to supply companies. I currently have a Leadtek GeForce2 with 64mb of DDR SDRAM made by Hyundai.
a 64meg GeForce2 may get you the frame rates you want. It would take 22mb or so of frame buffer memory just to get that high. Voodoo5 is only 32mb of actual memory.
what games you playing. 32 or 16bit color. make sure AGP is in 4x mode. try turning fastwrites on and off. make sure AGP arpeture is set to maximum (256mb no matter how much memory you have). what is your 3dmark score (default setting 16-bit color 1024x768)
more system RAM and a better graphics card would help. the 8megs on that thing make it even slower than a Savage4 should be. take a look at the GeForce2 MX 32mb as a cheap solution. best price/performance goes to GeForce DDR.
flashing bios is in the manual. download new bios off of asus site. then unzip it and save the unzipped file to a floppy that you've also got aflash.exe on (copy from VIA disc) and then boot to the disk. run aflash.exe follow the onscreen instructions and it'll say to enter whatever file the...
well the 4in1 4.23 drivers are out. I guess on my next format and reinstall i'll just use the USB and AGP drivers which are packaged separately on VIA's site. coincidence?
I think they are AGP4x but they don't store textures in system memory like all the other AGP cards out there. Its desgin is more like the PCI66 protocol but it transfers data at AGP4x. Still wondering if his motherboard supports AGP4x
white dots during a game is a problem when overclocking RAM not desktop flicker. It may just be your moniter refreshing (right click on your desktop and select refresh to see if you have the same effect). lower cost OEM boards by manufacturers such as AbsoluteMM have been know to use lower...
performance increase. it may buy you 1fps more. seriously i don't know but the gain is minimal (no game seems to take advantage of it).
actually your 3dmark will go up by a nice amount but other than that...
What motherboard chipset is that. If its VIA then don't forget the latest AGP driver (viagart.vxd) version 4.03
A clean reinstall of windows with just your vid card should work wonders also; then add other devices like your soundcard (preferably in the 5th or 6th PCI slot; keep it far away...
I keep wondering what it is that they are compressing as the drivers from the 5.xx series are anywhere form 1.6 or so megabytes to 2.4
I still think that 5.13 were fastest with me but had occasionally lockups.
P3600E
ASUS P3V4X
288mb PC100
Leadtek GeForce2 with 5.32 drivers (pretty damn stable).
I am sure $119 will be for a no frills 32mb SDR board. Asus has already posted its pricing for Australia
http://www.insanehardware.com/scoopage/asusv7100/index.htm
its $169 without TV out or DVI. This price is higher for a couple of reasons. First its retail pricing and the street price is...
I think Rambus has too many issues to make it a solid choice. High cost, high latency, extreme heat and high failure per chip probability. Everyone is against the company because of its high licensing fees and tyrant like behavior they actually claimed patents on SDRAM and tried to get the...
It could be a heating problem with that furnace you call Voodoo3 3500. Some active cooling by means of a fan may help. Also make sure you have good air circulation within your case. You may also be having power supply issues. Don't forget latest bios and drivers for everything.
if you want try to compare your scores to those found by sites such as tomshardware.com and anandtech.com There is no great performance jump from going past Ultra 33 since nothing stresses it yet (similar to no great difference between AGP2x and 4x). You see better performance from a faster RPM...
If you are using a VIA motherboard don't forget to get latest drivers especially there new AGP driver. You may have to flash your videocard BIOS. Also, try using AGP2x and disable Fastwrites.
use powerstrip to see if everything is working. I've never gotten AGP4x to work stable and I can never get Fastwrites on. The BIOS setting says its on but powerstrip tells the truth.
