Anybody misses the Socket 478 HSF mechanism?

You've never seen the latest AMD latching system I take it... You basically just position the heatsink over the CPU.. place the metal clips over the base loosely, and then turn the plastic lever on top of the heatsink to secure it...all done. It must be the best (and easiest) heatsink...

Problem with HP Pavillion DV9000

Sounds like you've been hit with a failed Nvidia chip...I had a DV6000 which pretty much did the same thing (GF7200).

I don't disagree about Charlie err..over-reacting about nvidia news.. it's pretty obvious.. But *some* of his news on Nvidia has been pretty spot on.. And I did agree with the Inq about the whole rock debacle in FarCry2.. that's hardly newsworthy..

Another day, another "Focus Group" member sticking up for Nvidia :) But seriously..yes Charlie does get a few wrong...but he was pretty spot on with the crap Nvidia chips...I've been hit twice by them!

If you have the two partitions as you say, and both are exhibiting the same kind of problem, then it would most likely suggest a faulty card.

Far Cry2 Cat 8.10 HotFix render errors

Please keep in mind people that this is only a game :) As far as optimizations go based on filenames? I see absolutely nothing wrong with that.. unless of course it's a synthetic benchmark, in which case it's just done for marketing purposes only. If the engineers at ATI/Nvidia can squeeze...

Want to watch cable TV on my pc

Most TV Tuner cards won't decode all cable channels. Most are encypted and cannot be displayed on standard TV Tuner cards.

For quite some time I have been battling HP with my DV6000 laptop and the constant problems we've had with it (mainboard failures, thanks Nvidia), and second-rate repairs. So when the laptop started to play up again, instead of trying to hassle HP into actually letting us use the 3yr warranty...

Intel RMA service?

Sorry to hijack the thread....but Crucial have good RMA's!??! That's news to me.. Had to RMA two dodgy sticks of Ballistix DDR500 Ram, and all they'll give me is $55 store credit for each.... so now i have to purchase two of their DDR400 sticks, and I still have to pay shipping back to me...

value TV/video card

I'd suggest sep. video card and tuner, mainly because if you ever need to upgrade the video card, you won't lose the tv tuner capability

My experience with a 2600XT

A lot of people hate rebates, and would rather purchase a product that doesn't have one. I thought that was crazy as I used to love rebates, but not anymore...I've had way too many times when the rebate company will screw up the rebate and you have to spend days trying to sort out their mess...

Type of processor for my MB?

S939 chips are hard to find these days...I picked up 2 939 4400 X2 Toledo's from TigerDirect for about $80 each about 3-4 months ago, but a couple of days after I ordered they weren't listed anymore...guess I got some of the last few..

300 dollar budget for card and psu

Just bought a Samsung 226BW and am very unimpressed

Sounds like you've got a bad monitor.. If you can send it back, do so and get a replacement... if not... try your PC with another monitor if you can, and if the problem doesn't occur, call Samsung and get a warranty job done on it..

Just bought a Samsung 226BW and am very unimpressed

Before you write off Samsung, make sure you can handle Viewsonic's dead pixel policies... From their Australian website it says they'll accept quite a few dead pixels as "acceptable", whereas Samsung have a zero-dead-pixel policy. Not sure if it's the same in NZ..

Video cards cannot be changed like on desktops... about the only option you will have is to purchase the 8600 again from Dell... There's too many variables to consider...such as power draw.. heat.. etc. etc... There's one here (with other parts)...
