    Asus P8P67 Deluxe RAID 1

Thanks Diogenes. I've done a lot of builds before but am totally new to RAID, so there's a whole new set of mysteries for me to explore. What do you think would be the ideal way to configure this? I would think that since all the devices support SATA III, I could use the 4 SATA III ports; but...

    Asus P8P67 Deluxe RAID 1

Hi all, I'm putting together my new system. I have 2 Western Digital Caviar Black drives (SATA III), 1 Corsair M4 256G solid state drive, and a SATA III based Blu-Ray burner. The mobo has 2 SATA III connectors from the Intel chipset, 2 SATA III connectors from the Marvell chipset, and 4...

Can you SLI 2 different nVidia cards?

I'm about to replace my 8800GTX with a 260 core 216. I don't currently have another sytsem to pop the 8800GTX into so it will sit idle, but I was wondering - can you SLI 2 different boards like this? My gut feeling is no, that they'd need to be identical.

Swapping out a motherboard under XP

I'm going from a Asus P5K to an Asus P6T board. XP is running fine for me, but I've had it installed for quite some time, it might be a good chance to restart and eliminate a lot of the cruft I've accumulated over the years.

Swapping out a motherboard under XP

If I choose to do a reinstall, do I have to flush and start from scratch, or can I boot up with the XP CD and do a "repair" install?

Swapping out a motherboard under XP

I recently purchased a new video board, and unfortunately found out it will not fit in my system (my Asus P5K motherobard has caps in the way of the end of the slot, and the SATA connectors are right in line with the video board - My 8800GTX was short enough, but my 260 is not). Anyway, I'll...

Upgrading nVidia cards - driver question

I'm upgrading from my 8800 GTX to a 260 Core 216. I'm running XP, and have the most recent released 180 drivers (not the 180.84 pre-release). Can I simply power down, swap cards, and power up? Or should I uninstall the drivers, power down/swap, power up, and reinstall the drivers? Thanks.

    ASUS P5K, Can I use a PCI-Ex16 2.0 video card?

I was doing a bit of reading - I wonder if the 2.0 cards come close to using the bandwidth that the 1.0 spec provides?

    ASUS P5K, Can I use a PCI-Ex16 2.0 video card?

I've got an ASUS P5K Deluxe. The manual says PCI-Ex16, so I am reasonably sure this motherboard does not support PCI-Ex16 2.0, but I'm not sure of the differences between the first rev and 2.0. I seriously doubt I can use a 2.0 video board in a non 2.0 mobo, but I thought I'd ask. Thanks.

    Anand's 9800 GX2 Review - 9800 GX2 IS KING?

Do the 9800 series cards *require* PCI Express 2.0? I have a relatively new build (about 6 months?) using a P5K motherboard, which is the prior version of PCIe (is that 1.0 or 1.1... not sure). I'm not intending on upgrading, I'm quite happy with my 8800GTX at the moment - it's just a matter...

    [Retired] The LCD Thread

So, I got my Planar PX2611W yesterday. I bought it from CDW becuase of their very liberal return/exchange policy. No dead pixels, thankfully. I'm running this off of an 8800GTX, and it looks absolutely stunning. The one thing I have a tough time getting used to is that LCD's can be VERY...

CDW's ship date for my Planar has slipped from 3/5 to 3/13... :-( If it weren't for their no hassle return policy, I might look somewhere else - though I guess if they are out of stock, then there must be a big run on these things. Any clues?

Migrating old code: C/C++ to CLR managed code, to JAVA, to more secure libs, better build options; semi-automated tools?

Well, I know we have a very large project in C++, and we use Visual Studio 6. We're porting it over to Visual Studio 2005 - though making no attempt to C# it. 2005 ends up telling you things like "strcpy" is unsafe, and suggests whatever replacement is safe. That's one place to start. The...

    Using PC RS232 Input

Yeah - it depends if it's a DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) or DCE (Data Communications Equipment) device. When you connected a PC (DTE) to a Modem (DCE) that was the "common" thing to do, the cable was straight through (i.e. what looked like RX to RX, etc.) The RX label was a matter of...

Sony VAIO laptop BIOS password woes

My very generous coworker bought a Sony VAIO laptop (a P4) for her neice several years back. The story is a bit murky, but somehow the laptop recently got a BIOS password put on - a boot up password. Turn the system on - goes through it's normal POST and such and then you must enter a...

Well, I took the plunge and ordered the Planar from CDW. Unfortunately, the won't be instock till next week. I thought I would have had it in time for the weekend. Argh! Oh well. I'll post back and give my impressions.

Hey all... I'm interested in the Planar, but also concerned about the stuck/dead pixel policy. It's been noted here that CDW has a 30 day exchange policy. I know some other retailers are VERY draconian about the dead/stuck pixels - newegg, for instance, says it has to be 8 or greater...

    PC Lapping kit

I picked up the higher # grits at Autozone, they had a wide variety of sandpapers. I didn't bother with a kit (not sure what the kit would have; all I used was some 3 in 1 oil to keep things moving, a board with a piece of glass on it, and the sandpaper.) You can see my results here...

Configuring a wireless router as an access point

Hi all, I recently purchased a WRT54GL to use with DD-WRT firmware as my main router for my home. Things are working fine. The router is in the basement of my house. I have a WRT54GXv2 that I'd like to hook up on the main floor to use as a hub for other wired devices & to provide better...

Are the 30" displays that require a dual DVI feed simply taking 2 DVI cables and hooking them up seperately to the monitor, or does it require something special on the video card (some other strange connector)?

OK, I've just recently snagged a 2407WFP from work to try overnight (not the Ultrasharp, this is the prior version without HDCP I believe). It's Rev A02. A simple question: Does it suffer the same ghosting issue as the 2407WFP-HC? I personally did not seem to have an issue. I know...

As far as my original post - if I can find (and I have) a BenQ FP241WZ, which would be the choice of most - that or the Dell 2407...? Keep in mind this is ONLY being driven from a PC. I would say the BenQ, only becuase it got higher ratings in the original post... but "today" what is the story?

    Pics of my latest Build

Hey all, Here are pics of my latest build. I really like the Antec case I bought, the P182, as I could route pretty much all the cables behind the motherboard tray and make the inside really clean. The only thing I was a bit disappointed in was the power supply bracket, since the Enermax...

    Auzentech soundcard

Not hiss for me, just small "beeps" and "boops" (yes, I know, highly technical). Typically I can hear this when the system reads from the HD or such when other sound is not playing. I would have suspected the particular build, but it's happened on the past several computers. My current box...

    P5K Deluxe SATA detection Issues?

Yeah that's true... I got a response from ASUS (I mailed them as well asking, same content as my original message here) and they told me that I had troubleshot as much as possible, and that they figure that the board is bad and I should return it. Whee! I guess though since it works I...

    P5K Deluxe SATA detection Issues?

Well, I did try it and it didn't work. However, it dawned on me that maybe you need to fill up the "master" before plugging in a "slave" - so I moved the DVD to SATA2, and it was fine. So the final config was SATA1 : HD, SATA2 : DVD, SATA3 : DVD. I know I had SATA1 and 2 in that config...

    P5K Deluxe SATA detection Issues?

Right, I did read that... But what's confusing me is "boot disk", "data disk", "master" and "slave". After doing looking last night online, it seems the terms "master" and "slave" for SATA are meaningless because you only hang one device off a SATA port unlike conventional IDE where you have 2...

    P5K Deluxe SATA detection Issues?

Hi all, I'm working on my new build. I just flashed the BIOS to rev 0501. I have a Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 1TB drive (SATA) and a LiteON SATA DVD burner. I hooked up the HD to SATA1 & the DVD to SATA 2. When it booted, I found that nothing seemed to detect on the SATA. So I pulled...
