XP doesn't install over itself, it will force a re-format of the HDD before it re-installs.

Adding RAM to Windows XP

Actually yes it does. I had the same happen and you can find threads on the net about it. Microsoft has yet to address the issue. My box was toast after I took out the new RAM and added the old stick. What you may find happens is that it trashes the registry. I did get it fixed, using the XP CD...

What would another 256 ram do for me

Not a whole lot actually, XP may boot a little faster. XP can use a lot of RAM unlike 98, but in games that aren't coded to use the memory it just sits unused. Would I get another stick? Yes. If you look at the roadmap Memory Manufactures have planned, prices are just going to continue to rise...

PLEASE I need help updating BIOS on Iwill KK266 can I ............

I use the same board, had the same 1.2 AMD T-Bird, and did the same thing you are but I flashed the BIOS BEFORE installing the XP processor. To error on the side of the health of the chip, and since it's not that big a deal to reinstall the 1.2 and flash,... that's personally what I'd do.

UPDATE from EZ CD Creator 5.xx to NEW 5.1!

That's not bad. You might want to think about doing a little research on RAM prices, doesn't look like they are going to do anything but keep going up so if you can find a good buy you might want to get more RAM now.

According to eWeek (Enterprise weekly) and a few other pubs my work sends to my home the prices will continue to rise. Since there are only a few manufactors actually making RAM anymore, and they are no long battling eachother but have formed an alliance together, you can expect them to continue...

Shipping a comptuer a great distance

I'ts been awhile, actually what I always do is use the orginal case box, then get a slightly larger box and fill it with peanuts, and put the keyboard and mouse and whatever in the outter box. Never had anything break in shipping.

Ram issue

It says that it requires Registered ecc chips, so non-ecc probably won't work. That's a server board so it's built for registered ecc chips. My board says it takes either chip, and I've used both types, I just can't mix them at the same time. Try and borrow non-ecc ram and try before you buy any...

Whats the easiest method of Imaging a HD?

Don't know of freeware that does it. You can get a shareware version of Drive Image from Powerquest and try it out. Iv'e used Ghost and Drive Image, both do the same thing. I'd shell out the $$$ for either (Ghost would be cheaper because you can find it bundled with SystemWorks from Noton and...

Windows XP Product Activation Question

He's wrong. The only TWO that don't require activation are the Corporate Edition and XP Pro that has been hacked by installing Corporate Editon files into it,..making it basically a Corporate Edition. If MS wanted to get all of these hacked versions they would probably do it with the update...

Should I install an os on my storage HDD?

You will need to format the drive or windows can't use it. And Fdisk has a 64Gb limit so you can use a linux partitioner or go to MS site and download a patch for fdisk. Even with the patch it it will show you are formating the HDD size minus 64GB, so for a 80GB drive it will show you have a...

Help buying a new HD, your advice apprecaited!

Will you see a performance increase? Basically, no. ATA 66 vs ATA 100 means about nothing since drives aren't even able to run at ATA 66. And going from a 7200 RPM drive to another 7200 RPM drive would also mean nothing. The 80Gb may have denser platters, or maybe not I don't know the drive, but...

doh! Thanks for the help! Booting off the CD is what I went brain dead about,... XP you can just put in the CD and go, when you try that with 2000 it simply gives you the option to upgrade the current install. Why it says it can't tell what OS is on my machine I don't know, but no problems...
