'winxp manager' http://www.yamicsoft.com/ is the only good and easy to use trialware that i know of. so use it to clean yr context menu items selectively. you can always uninstall it after you have finished yr work. else you will have to physically delete some registry entries manually ...

u seem to be having 'transperancy' even on xp ;-) btw, have you installed any theme packs ? bcoz quite possibly either your system files appear to have got corrupted or maybe you need to get some of your dll's re-regd.

no i think one defntly needs an av ! windows being the most popular (90%+) Os is constantly hammered at by malware writers. apart from and av/as/fw, replace ur Hosts File with a'good' one and add badsites list to ur internet zones using zonedout. u wont get infected !

problem with kaspersky and anandtech.com

i use KIS not kav, had this problem. this helped : try switching to streaming scan also do this : (dont know if the antihacker is there in kav) settings->anti-hcker->settings->zones and uncheck stealth mode overall, then go to the others tab and select maximum speed. Reboot
