Oh yeah, one other thing, the Envy likes the 16:9 screens not the 16:10, so you get 1920x1080 not x1200, but you can get 1920x1080 on the 15.6" envy as well. I think it weighs in around 5.5 pounds. Also you might get into that for closer to $1500 depending on options.

sounds like you're doing releases often enough that you might not have a full formal acceptance test process, I still suggest having specific branches to release from and don't release directly from trunk. I have never actually used VSS, so I don't know how well branching and merging works in...

usually we try to keep trunk/master in a state that's "mostly functional" as in ready to hit an acceptance test and then have release branches/tags. Once trunk/master passes an acceptance test, you merge to your release branch. So, short answer: both

Right, I see what you mean now. You're just changing the background image. Sorry, I was confused. I was thinking you were creating a new div with the new background image in an ajax response and then adding it to the dom. I'm not sure I can help you here, sorry.

In any reasonably modern browser, you can put a load event on any element, and it fires when that element finished loading. You could just say <div onload=" function(); "> or if you want to add events from javascript something like http://snipplr.com/view/3116/cross-browser-add-event-listener/

I'm not exactly clear on what you are trying to do, but is there some reason the general domelement load event won't work for whatever it is? If you really want to do it as a check, you could just set a variable in the load event and then check that variable.

Is it safe to "transplant" hard drive between Macs?

I see you said it was working fine, and that's not surprising, but it still might be worth doing an Archive & Reinstall at some point. It'll keep your home dir and settings intact but do a clean install of the OS files. Clear out duplicate driver sets and whatnot. Probably not necessary, but...

Porn websites still work in Mobile Safari right? I mean, I have an Android phone, so obviously I'm basically rolling in porn every time I turn it on. But I'm pretty confident an iPhone can still browse to many porn sites with the aid of Safari.

Nah, the Z's not really what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something more like a 15" MBP. But I was just thinking that it's interesting enough that some of the rest of the Vaio line might be worth a look.

Don't know a lot about the thinkpads. I remember back when IBM owned them, are they still as good? The HP Envy looks interesting but I have seen a lot of junk HP laptops, so I'm inclined away from them. But to be fair to HP those were mostly the kind of cheap laptop I'm specifically looking...

RAID-0

If you have 2 drives in RAID0 and either of them dies you lose all the data on BOTH. If you have 2 individual drives and either of them dies you lose only the data on it. Specifically suppose you have an "OS/Apps" drive and a "Data" drive, which I think is a pretty common minimal division...

Will using up 3 of my 4 DIMM Slots slow down the speed?

Where the 2 you left both in purple slots, both in green slots, or one each? It should be one each, and also they should be the ones on one side, dont' use the ones in the middle or the ones on the edges, even though they are opposite colours.

If you are using only 1 stick, use a green. If you are using 2 sticks use a matched pair of green and purple. It's telling you not to use a purple by itself. The wording could be a bit clearer, I imagine.

In case you are interested the MSi K8N Neo2 Platinum has a chart similar to fig.1 (it's even freely available on the product info website, you dodn't even need to go to the manual for it, including the note about not supporting 3 DIMMs at all. So that's two. ;)
