I'm cooling a Quad core, not a Dual Core. These are much hotter than Dual. I checked the water block, all seems fine. I'm not cooling anything else than the CPU. Like I said it's the Water cooling system provided with the case, it uses 3/8" tubes, a pump, a 120x360mm heatsink with 3 120mm fans...

Thermal specs say I shouldn't go above 63°C Tcase, here I'm at 59°C. Tcore should be ok up to 80/85°C (I tested up to 84°C stable on air cooling), so 70°C is fine. The computer crashes with core temps of around 66°C @ 3.4Ghz, so I don't think it's a temperature problem. It used to crash @...

Lapped my Q6600 :-)

I get mirror at 600 already, and if you use polish you can have a very nice result (which I don't recomment because the product will make the temps worst unless you clean very well with isopropyl alcohol) All depends how you lap, at 600, if I do too big moves, I don't get a mirror finish at...

Yes, on air, the difference is huge, on water cooling it is a bit less. I noticed you have a thermaltake case on your picture, do you have the one with water cooling? I'll wait a bit to lap the second quad... I kind of hurt my wristle ;-)

Well, I don't know, at stock speed with stock intel cooler it was reaching 69°C on load (4x prime95). Might also be related to the MB, it seems to overvolt the CPU by default (I keep default voltage in bios), I know that very slight overvoltage can increase the temp few degrees. I tried the...

Well if you read my post above, I mentionned it : Now the CPU temperature is measured (approxed) by a MB probe, and it is not off 15°C so it should really be around 71°C. For the 4 cores, you need to add 15°C indeed (68 - 70°C before lapping, 58 - 62°C after) Core Temp of 70°C @ 3Ghz at...

Just want to share my lapping experience. I was a little skeptical about how good it would do to my CPU, I'm quite impressed in the end! I went to buy some sandpaper sheets (I took 100 (cheap), 240 (cheap) and 600 (waterproof, good brand) grains, they didn't have anything more thin) Before...

Strange Temps on Core Quad Q6600

Well, according to the post of graysky above, my speedfan readings are 15°C off, that means core temps are 29+15=44, 27+15=42, 20+15=35 and 22+15=37 which are all above ambiant. So all is ok.

Q6600 vs E6850 (Short term [12 months])

Well, a Q6600 can be overclocked to 3Ghz very easily with a decent air cooler, and to 3.2Ghz+ with water cooling. Once games like crysis be released Quad core makes sense, also for video encoding, ... It's true the Q6600 gets hot (specs are 105W), at full load with stock cooler it reaches 65...

Thanks for the info, that makes sense. Now, in the thread you mentionned in your post, how that guy gets 4 core readings with TAT? I get only CPU1 and CPU2 with TAT. Also, I have 7°C difference between Core1/2 and Core 3/4, is that normal? I double checked again the CPU block was properly...
