    Sound Card Suggestions

    Hi all, I need some suggestions for a good (read: cheap) sound card. $100 is my absolute limit, I was hoping maybe around $50 or even less if there is sucha thing. Right now, I have an ISA AWE64, so pretty much anything is an improvement. Mainly I just want to move to PCI. So... fire away!

    That's because on an IPX network, all computers must be set to use the same frame type. What that means is that the IPX packets are sent out in different formats, and they are not compatible with each other. You just have to choose one and go with it throughout the entire network. OTOH...

    Try pinging the local loopback address (127.0.0.1) on each machine, and then have each machine ping its own address. See if that turns up anything.

    My guess is that what is happening is that all the packets for the zone are being forwarded to the client. Check and see if there are port forwarding options.

    How to configure IP addresses?

    It depends on what the IP address are for your current network -- it has to be on the same subnet as the other computers (unless you're using a router). Descrcibe your network set up in more detail, please.

    Inbound connections are those packets coming into your computer, while outbound connections, of course, are those goig to the network. Which computer are you trying to play the game on, the one connected directly to the Internet or to the one connected to the computer running ICS?

    The first thing I would check is can the machine that is hooked directly to the internet reach websites, and double-check the gateway is set correctly on the client.

    3com NIC question

    Your Internet connections won't work without it. Its getting IP and DNS information so you can connect to the Internet. If you know that your IP address doesn't change, you could find out what it is and specify it as a static one, and specify a DNS server as well. This is not a good strategy...

    The IP addresses don't have to be consecutive, but they do have to be on the same network. Try using 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 for the machine's IP addresses and use 255.255.255.0 as a subnet mask. The Input/Normal button is so you can hook another hub into that hub. Leave it on normal, or...

    You could create a group list, depending on mail clients and servers. If you are using Outlook Express, just create a group and add to the list everyone's e-mail address to whom you would like the message to be sent. You should test this first, just to be sure the e-mails are hidden.

    The only problem with Task Scheduler (correct me if I'm wrong) is that it only runs when someone is logged on. If you schedule a task logged on as Joe Schmoe then log off for the night, it won't run, even if you are logged on as someone else.

    My guess is that Win ME is intelligent enough to know that Win2K Pro is installed and to act accordingly to make dual-boot. As far as I know, Win 95 and 98 knew how to set it up. so I'd think ME would be able to, as well.
