    You may want to try booting up the PC and Laptop with the keyboard and mouse plugged in. I'm assuming they're ps/2. Like, switch the Flip to the desktop, boot it up, then switch it to the laptop and boot it up.

    A 300 watt PSU is NOT sufficient for a system that uses a 8800GTS. For starters, the video card alone sucks about 120 watts of power. Add in ram, hard drives, opticals, and CPU's, and you're running near peak. 450 is bare minimum if you want a reliable, long lasting system.

    Wow. That fixed it. Yeah, so, apparently, my SATA 3.0 controller was defective. The instant I switched to the 150, it worked PERFECTLY. Weird, though. That's an odd thing to fail.

    I'll run wd's diagnostic. Hope it doesn't need a fdd. The SATA controllers are both integrated into the motherboard, the 3.0 one on its own PCIe channel, and the 150 one on PCI, I think.

    The main problem is that you can get corrupted data and bad sectors when a hard drive loses power during write. Data may still be in the buffer, as in stored on the HDD's RAM but not written to the drive, and it will be lost if power goes out.

    Yeah. The problem isn't even bad spots - the data in these areas of the hdd is fine, but it just reads slow as hell in those specific parts. I'll try running hdtune overnight.

    I analyzed the drive, and there are *no* fragmented files. Makes sense, because I use the drive as a media disc, and have never deleted files off of it since the reformat.

    Get a new video card. The one you have blows chunks. It's not going to do max with DX10 or 9. It might be able to do low settings with a decent framerate. The video card you SHOULD get is a Geforce 8800GT. If it isn't out yet, wait. ;) 200 bucks and it's better than an 8800GTS...

    I'm gonna try cloning the MAC address of the router into the pfsense box. I'll disconnect the router, of course. If it helps, we used to run the network with the uplink from the switches going directly into the modem. It was extremely unstable, but it DID work, sort of.
