Has anyone else had a problem with Energy Saver that came with this mobo? I've been running it and it seems after an undetermined amount of time it crashes and generates a 'ton' of crash windows....like 30 or so. I've emailed Gigabyte but they want me to try a different OS or a different BIOS...
I have an older IDE drive connected and also a RAID 0 on the Gigabyte SATA ports and with the Gigabyte SATA configured for 'enabled' and 'raid/ide' the IDE device works fine. The other SATA ports are set for AHCI and are my DVD burner, Boot Drive, and Storage Drive....all is good. I've also...
One thing that I found confusing about setting up the BIOS that might help others during config is that if you enable AHCI for the SATA ports, you have to go back into the AHCI BIOS and setup the boot order again.
Probably a newbie mistake but it might help somone.
Well, here I am, online with my new X48 with Vista 64 installed...seems to work VERY well. I didn't mess with the heat pipe like I did with the 680i, and just installed my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and get as good or better than the Ultima90i I had installed before.
WOO HOO!
I didn't hear from them, I emailed Chuck a couple days after I saw my mobo was received and he emailed back immediatly with my tracking number for the X48 which was sent the same day they received mine.
I was just contacted from Chuck as well, and sent him the info he requested, my ball is rolling. I did request an advanced replacement with the offer of a contingency fee, I use this rig for my business as well as my entertainment, losing it for a couple weeks is a tough loss, hopefully...
I actually received a call from Leo today, didn't have an opportunity to chat with him, but he sounds like a calm individual so that will be nice.
SLI isn't in my future, but an Extreme Quad is, so I think the X48 will be ok for me.
Well, I'm SOL, I've modified my board to fit my Ultima90 cooler on it. If they require all the 'stuff' that came with it, f#$k that.
Gigabyte makes some good boards, but I think I'm done with them as well as recommending them to others. So long Gigabyte and it's been 'sorta' nice knowing...
I just loaded the FBc Bios for the REV. 2 boards and with the same settings as the FA bios everything seems stable. I do notice that with the memory SLI enabled with a 0% overclock the post reads memory running at 1001 rather than 1066 as with bios FA.
I'll be the first to admit I'm sorta a...
I just bought a new AM2 chip and I didn't realize it didn't come with a stock cooler, the system I'm replacing is a Socket 754, will that cooler work with the AM2 socket?
I'm about ready to give up on this board....I have the REV2 version and while it runs ok stock, what's the point. I can get the same or better performance from another chipset that HAS SOME KIND OF SUPPORT...
I may say goodbye to Gigabyte altogether...
Very heavy instrumental songs....hmmmm....heavy is pretty objective....
How about...
ISIS
Pelican
Mastodon
Warhammer
Gordion Knot
Canvas Solaris
Cannibal Corpse
Meshuggah
Fear Factory
All these bands have some pretty heavy instrumental stuff, you just have to listen...
Well, the fans are not metal, and the LED's are not metal...and the power/reset buttons are not metal. But the power and reset buttons fully light up. Other than that, the entire case is aluminum.
The holes in that grill are a bit bigger than that link shows...take a look at the picture I posted, you can easily fit the lead of a pencil into the mesh.
Did you look at the picture I posted? It has a filter/grill on the hole, and actually, it has a perfectly round convex surface that protrudes from the circle just a bit...not bad for about a 15 minute project. And yes, tape the surface of the case, I like the blue painters tape. It comes off...
You must mean Fallen Kell's post, mine is a Thermalright Ultima 90. But I'm not sure if there is a right or wrong orientation, perhaps an orientation you like the looks of better, but I seriously doubt that the cooling performance is decreased by his orientation.
Proper job...I suppose that's based upon purely subjective 'looks' rather than any type of airflow restriction?
Personally I think a radius hole in the side of a case might look stupid, purely subjective of course...
I would use a 4.5" bi-metal hole saw and then mark the fan mounting holes and drill through with the appropriate size bit. The 4.5" hole diameter is nearly the exact diameter of the 120mm fan duct...check out this photograph to see what it could look like.
4.5" hole with fan guard mounted
Well, as with all aluminum, yes, it can scratch easily....black probably even more easily. I like the case, but after I added the passive vents for the PSU's it's a much better case for cooling.
I will be upgrading the stock fans to some Arctic Cooling fans to help with a bit of fan noise I...
Thanks FK, I'm pretty happy with the system. I just did the 'passive fan' mod to the case and it works as expected. It's hasn't really improved my core temps all that much, but certainly has made the system much more quiet, the PSU fan no longer runs full RPM with the cool air intake from the...
I think the arctic cooler 7 did a better job than my current Ultima 90 in my setup. The only reason I changed is that the fact that the shape/fin structure of the Cooler 7 caused several of the fins to be crushed on one side due to the large northbridge cooler on my mobo. It was an appearence...
Here's how the system turned out, there is a little work to do like venting the side panel where the PSU fan is located, just too much heat builds up here and the PSU fan runs at max RPM after the system has been on for a while (with the case side attached). I had to remove the top fan so I...
That's interesting, thanks for the different point of view. Maybe I'll pick up another Ultima 90 and use it stock and see what happens.
Anyone 'want' a lapped Ultima 90?
I understand that the larger the sink the better the performance, but I'm not even getting close to the performance in the review...that's my issue. I'm alright with not having the ultimate cooler, and can sacrafice a few degrees centigrade...I just want to make sure that it's working within...
How was the mount on yours aigo? Was it firm, or did it swivel around even after it was tightened all the way?
Also, do you remember what the temps were?
