Well I went to Circuit City to buy the Samsung 2253BW for $299 and was pleasantly surprised to see 2 2232GW's in the case, which is the one I'd prefer anyway, since it's a GW which has a glossy screen like my w2207 - but their website said the GW was not available in stores so I scratched it off...
Now I'm thinking of getting the Samsung 2253BW since it's available locally for $299. I went and looked at some monitors yesterday at Best Buy, they had the 2232BW+ which looked pretty good. Circuit City across the street has the 2253BW, I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow at lunch time and...
Actually the VX2255wmb tested better on grays and colors out of the box than the VG2230wm :) (which surprised me) on DigitalVersus.com
The VX is also $40 cheaper and has the rebate whereas the VG is $299 flat @ NewEgg (no rebates).
Now I'm even looking at the Samsung 2253BW but I'm gun-shy...
I'm shopping for a 2nd 22" and I'd like to get another w2207 or the LG L227WTG to have the glossy screen, I'm thinking about the ViewSonic VX2255wmb which DigitalVersus rated very highly.
I do need a monitor with good color representation because I do PMS color/graphic design work (mainly...
CoreTemp displays what it should be at (technically) but doesn't display the current fsb/multiplier.
CPU-Z displays the current fsb/multiplier and refreshes/updates itself every second (or less, probably).
When Speedstep affects the multiplier, CPU-Z will show that difference but CoreTemp...
Because not all aftermarket HSF are made the same and that one probably stinks? :D
It's either that, a mounting issue, or a thermal paste issue. Try reseating the heatsink and cleaning then reapplying your thermal paste. If the temps don't fall then get a different HSF. ;)
Use CoreTemp to check your temps.
AFAIK it offers the best results (closest to what they actually are). I've seen many people say other apps (like using the bios PC Health Status or other apps like Speedfan) are off by several degrees.
Yep, speedstep. Lowers multi from 9x -> 6x to conserve power/energy/temps. You can disable speedstep in the bios; info is in the oc guide. You want to disable both EIST and C1E which will handle both the lowering of the multiplier and the vcore.
Your link for temps isn't working.
Use...
Here's one for a system I built for a friend...I will have another one to add (very similar, different ram though) in a week or so.
CPU:e2160 (L2)
FSB and Multi: 9x333 / 1333 fsb
Vcore: 1.344v (cpu-z idle), 1.320v (cpu-z load) - 1.365v (bios)
Mobo: IP35-e
RAM: G.Skill 2x2 DDR2 800...
No, NewEgg just never has it in stock (or at least I've never seen it in stock).
Get it for $42.99 at SVC.
http://www.svc.com/ultra-120.html
HR-01 is not the same, HR-01 is designed for passive/fanless cooling.
Ultra120 is designed to use active/fan cooling.
Yeah, what motherboard?
I'm running Prime95 on a system I built for a friend a few weeks ago (that I didn't get around to stress testing then).
E2160 L2 stepping
IP35-E
got it running 3ghz (333x9)
cpu vcore 1.32 @ idle, vcore is 1.29 @ load (I believe).... so .03 vdroop
G.Skill DDR2...
You & me both man.
Frickin' abomination of a heatsink assembly schematic.
I've said it before, I'll say it again - whomever came up with that crap needs to be handed his pink slip.
Even if running at stock I'd rather pay $40 for a backplate HSF or at least pay the $10 for the Thermalright...
1) You've almost went through a whole tube of AS5? Umm, too much I think? Applying too much is no better than applying too little; too much is a heat insulator and will give you heat issues just the same as not applying enough.
2) Freezer 7 for all intents and purposes is no better or worse...
I know you can take a mini from a Core Solo to a Core Duo, but I haven't heard anyone go to Core 2 Duo.
The new minis that come with C2D you could probably do it, but I would guess you probably can't with the one you have.
Don't feel bad man, I thought about doing the same thing recently...
Just got my IP35-E Monday and my other 2x1 Ballistix Tracer kit Tuesday and I wanted to test my board and ram out but I don't have my cpu yet. I thought about trying it without the cpu but I was going to give my buddy a call...
I've skimmed through SR's thread but couldn't figure this out -
how can you tell which bios revision is which (since it apparently lists it by date but not revision?). TIA
No but according to a whole lot of other people's testing and reports it's the only sub-$100 board that does 400+ fsb with no quirks. (ie DS3L losing settings on a restart or reboot)
The other reason I picked it over the DS3L is because the bios has a lot more tweaking options available on...
IP35-E back in stock @ NewEgg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813127031
They go back out of stock usually within 1 day of coming back in stock so demand must be insane for these still. ;)
Nevertheless if you don't get lucky make sure to do the auto-notify.
Fair enough.
Better as in "no crashes", errors, lock ups etc of any kind. IE stability is what I'm looking for.
I've had a Radeon 9500 for about 4 years now and the Catalyst Control Center crashes on me practically on a daily basis which is why I was planning on getting an nVidia card this...
Who has better Vista x64 drivers? nVidia or ATi?
I know they've both had issues in the past with sketchy drivers, especially nVidia, but I'm wondering if they've both fixed those problems and now both work OK (or if one is better than the other right now)?
Any thoughts?
TIA
Yes; it doesn't say it does according to NewEgg but on the box and on HIS's product page for that card it specifies that it is HDCP ready.
I found this odd myself because NewEgg has the same card, with HDCP listed, for more $.

There are 2 512meg 2600XTs on NewEgg for >$100 after rebates. (both are similar spec wise, the only diffrences are brand name and cooler size)
Powercolor for $99.99 after $30 mir
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814131066
HIS for $84.99 after $27 mir...
There's a couple 2600XTs on sale at NewEgg for under $100 after rebate but I know the 3650 is supposed to be out soon.
Will both cards be pretty equal or should I wait on the 3650?
I ordered an IP35-E when they were in stock last Thursday 12/27. They still had them in stock through Saturday or Sunday, I cannot remember.
Check every day, they'll get more IP35-E's in stock. That's what I've been doing; in fact I found them by accident while searching for alternative P35...
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS LINK
I've been wondering if I should even bother with 256 meg cards (either the 3850 or the 8800GT) @ 1680x1050; now I know that I shouldn't.
'Sick' as in awesome, bad @$$ etc etc.
Jared, according to expreview they said they didn't do Crysis because of something with the nVidia 169.xx drivers cheating in Crysis benchmarks or something. (going by responses at the end of their review)
Wow...sick performance on that card. What a monster. Glad I have to wait a month or two before buying the rest of the parts for my budget build otherwise I'd already have a 3850. :)
Until the 256meg 8800GT is released -
ATi owns the sub-$200 market because the 3850 is unrivaled in that area. Nothing comes close. It spanks the bejesus out of the 8600GTS cards and everything else nVidia or ATi has made before it.
Now -
$200+, by all means, the 8800GT is a better buy than...
Yep... 'The Sims' ;)
Nice link Jackdruid, I figured the cheapest the 3850's were right now (with the demand and NewEgg's jacked up pricing BS) was $179 but I'd definitely pay an extra $29 for one. Thanks for that link. :)
I don't really dislike ATi by any means, I just have issues with the...
I'm trying to figure out what budget nVidia card to get for $120-$130 for my new build which should be finished (hopefully) next month.
I've had nVidia, now ATi - looking to go back to nVidia (I really dislike ATi's Catalyst Control Center/prefer nVidia's).
I'm looking for a decent budget...
Yeesh, 8600GT beat the 2600XT in CoD4...yikes. Thanks for posting that link. ;)
Yeah...I think I'll probably pay the extra $70 towards new year and get the 8800GT instead. :) Wowzers *still reeling from 2600XT CoD4 marks*
This is what I'm looking for...recent games with recent drivers comparing the cards. There's a million other benchmarks from months ago that are using old Catalyst drivers that basically say the 2600XT sucks. Tom's Hardware (severely outdated) VGA charts say the 2600XT sucks. I'm just saying -...
I agree completely.
DX10 is still a blip on the radar with a whole lot of maturing time before I seriously consider plunking down several hundred dollars on a card just to run DX10 games.
Until then I'll stick with the cheap stuff and DX9. ;)
Right.

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3122&p=3
I'll repeat again.
2600XT outperformed the 8600GTS and was similar to 1950 Pro.
I'm getting mixed signals from things I've read on various sites (through a google search).
I'm going to buy a E2160 + DS3R and raise the FSB to get a 3 gig cpu clock speed overclock.
Originally I was going to get DDR2 800 but I've seen people say with just a 1333 FSB that DDR2 667 is...
