The additional fans did not drop GPU temp at all, but it did drop CPU temps a bit (and make the fluctuations of fan speed a bit more stable too). Overall not worth it for the extra noise. Maybe the addition of the top exhaust to pull some extra heat out when needed. Side fan doesn't seem to do...

Very low power consumption 150W max on gaming pc?!

Many cheap power draw measurers don't properly measure switching power supplies as the duty cycle confuses them. For example a cheap one I had showed it using 60 watts in standby mode, when the actual usage was 4 watts. That one was $20 - I'd say it's useless to measure the power draw of a PC...

Any problems mixing "old" and new RAM kits (identical models)?

Sometimes they change timings on revisions, especially if the actual chips come from a third party. But out of the two sets usually the most relaxed timings will be used and it should work most of the time.

Are RAM Heat Spreaders Snake Oil? (in 2015)

Good to eliminate hot spots. Also as someone said, hides the OEM of the actual manufacturer. But also protects chips from say, static electricity or accidental damage to some degree. My DDR3 1333 in my HTPC doesn't have headspreaders.

Build or buy a NAS?

I've been looking at the Thecus 7 drive model, and 7 6 TB drives in RAID 5. My concerns are if the unit dies, needing to get another of the same model. My other option is making a FreeNAS or even Windows based NAS but finding a uATX board with more than 6 SATA ports seems a near impossible feat.

This will only be even theoretically true 50% of the time, if the random data happens to be on the other drive. There is just as much chance it will be on the same drive and performance will be no better than a single drive setup. There's a software layer sitting between the OS and the disks...

Agree, software raid is an advantage here (Windows 7 had built in soft RAID 5 but I think it was removed). I'd be interested to know with regards to if it's possible to migrate a RAID 5 from one system to another (ie. NAS box to Intel RST etc.).

A minor correction to anyone who may read: my 256/512 do indeed turn out to be 240/480 respectively. These things do genuinely have 256/512 GB of flash memory, but 7% lost to the OP. Appears the OP your Samsung tool offers is additional to the built in OP.

Why can't SSD compression be implemented differently?

Well, not at file level, but so the OS "knows" the data is compressed and adjusts free space to boot. We all know SSDs compress data to increase write speed / wear leveling efficiency. But a 512 GB will only hold 512 GB compressed or uncompressed. Wouldn't it be better if the drive could...

Ways to reduce TDP of a non-lower power Core i5 CPU ?

I have a 3470 in my HTPC - It's undervolted -0.050v could probably go more but I don't like it "in the red" in BIOS. It does make the temps drop a little and power consumption lower. This runs 50 watts idle and about 70 with the 5 disk RAID-5 array spun up.
