Are 2Rx4 DDR2 ECC memories compatible with Intel Xeon on socket 771?

Are 2Rx4 DDR2 ECC memories compatible with Intel Xeon on socket 771?

For my Intel Xeon L5420 (socket LGA771) I bought 24GB of DDR2 ECC Registered, 2Rx8, knowing that 2Rx4 are specific to AMD chipsets or, at least, the non-ECC ones are. However, this slick seller instead sent me 2Rx4, the cheaper ones. Will these work nonetheless on a 771 Xeon?

There seem to be little detail around what happened, but on the Freeciv's wiki there are some pages (particularly this one) which say it is temporarily reachable from another address (http://freeciv-debian.ns0.it/forum). I haven't found more details.

There is always only one way to get each combinations because the order of the elements (the sons) has to be removed. Without the order, there is always the probability of 50% the unique unknow son is male or no.
