    OCZ Agility 3 60Gb @ $69.99 - Good Deal?

I got the 60GB Agility on a Black Friday special for near the same price and it has not given me any problems so far. It came with the latest firmware so that may be why I have not seen the reported Sandforce BSOD's. I have another 1 TB hard drive along with it so I don't install big games...

Couple of questions about Corsair XMS2 in 4 x 1GB config

Up the MCH voltage up one notch to 1.29v and start with 5-5-5-15. If you can do better timings then great, but don't expect it. The main problem with mixing memory is that they may need different voltages and there is no way to specify individual voltages for the chips.

Will running 4x1b PC6400 sticks hinder my cpu performance?

Your going to have to loosen the timings. I had 4-4-4-12 with 2x1GB, but had to go to 5-5-5-15 with 4x1GB

FX-55 - trying to overlcock but Vcore not going up?

I would not screw with the FSB on a ECS. FX's have a unlocked multiplier. Just change from 13x to 14x to make it 2.8GHz

any advantage to go from 2gb -> 4gb?

I don't think you will see a huge difference in measurable FPS on games with 4GB, but the games will subjectively feel smoother with less pauses and especially loading new maps/levels. You will certainly notice how the games starts and quits faster Also ALT+TAB while running a game can get you...

    Final suggestions?

I did not even notice the 19" LCD. Trade the Q6600 for a cheaper chip if you have to, but definitely get a bigger / nicer monitor -> this is where you can actually see the difference! 20" or 22" widescreen at 1680x1050 is a minimum requirement these days. you could also transfer some of...

    Final suggestions?

i would get a SATA DVD burner instead of the IDE. Not that it will be any faster, just that IDE ports are being phased out on newer motherboards. SATA cables are much nicer to work with too.

    does thermal grease go bad?

What kind? Arctic Silver or other good quality stuff would certainly still be fine. Does not really go bad without use, but more likely outdated in terms of performance compared to newer technology.

Buying chip for overclocking- E6750 or allendale?

Your linky just proved otherwise. "Despite the fact that memory is varying from 3-2-2-6 timings at DDR2-400 all the way to 5-5-5-18 timings at DDR2-1067 all three games continue to show improvement in frame rates as memory speed increases. Put another way, performance continues to improve as...

    E2140 or X2 4000+?

The extra cache memory does help in some games and applications. Look at how the E4300 matches up to the E2140 which are at the exact same clock & bus speed. They should overclock on average to the same level. The E4500 should overclock better then the E4300 with a higher multiplier...

How well does this RAM overclock in general?

just don't expect to retain the same tight timings. I will guess the best you can do is 5-4-4-15 but you may have to even to go as high as 5-5-5-18 if your chips are not real good. It also depends on what the motherboard and North bridge can handle too.

I hate patriot and their pdc22g6400llk ram!

Running 4 sticks is not the same as running 2. You can't expect to maintain the same 4-4-4-12 timings on 4 sticks, especially if your at 1T command rate. I think you should shoot for something more like 5-5-5-15 2T for 4 sticks. You can run cpu-z to find out the command rate, and I am sure...

    E6750 or wait for E8400?

You already have a motherboard and RAM designed for overclocking so you might as well use it! Just google overclocking that motherboard or just about any NForce4 motherboard and you should get a nice boost to limp along till something good comes out.

    8800gts dilemma

The 8600's are weak for gaming so your should definitely get a 8800 if you can afford it. As far as 320 vs 640 it is totally dependent on the game, and somewhat dependent on the resolution. In general 1280x1024 is going to be ok with 320MB on most games for now, but who knows what will happen...

Best Gaming LCD as of Sept 2007?

Yes I and most people can see the difference between 60Hz and higher on a CRT, but a LCD is different technology. Your just fooling yourself if you think you can see the difference between 60 and 75 Hz on a LCD. I would not pay much attention to what the manufacture claims about the response...

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Demo Benchmarks

Nobody should be using a unsupported old OS like win2000 as your just asking to be hacked on the internet these days. If you want cheap or just don't want to contribute to Bill Gates' jet collection then use a Linux disto, which BTW will be supported by Quake Wars.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Demo Benchmarks

In my experience with the game you have to turn up everything to max (including diffuse, bump, specular, ansiotrophy) and AA to at least 2x or 4x to really see Quake Wars in it's full glory. Any higher then 4x AA brings down my fps to unacceptable rates and does not really help the visual...

    a good bang-for-the-buck upgrade?

X2 is not a magic pill, in fact unless you can overclock it to 2.9 GHz (and most likely you can't) it will be a downgrade in most games and single threaded applications. More RAM might help with having to wait for things to unload from memory and then reload from the hard drive. I would not...

    Upgrade to 8800gts?

If your running at 2.4 GHz it could help a little if you could overclock to around 2.6 GHz, but it is not holding you back as much as the video card. Even if you eventually upgrade to a new cpu/motherboard a 8800 would not go wasted.
  34. P

    Question about eVGA step-up.

Since you probably paid less then MSRP along with a rebate for the 8800, and you will have to pay MSRP for the 8700 it just may be possible. When they release it certainly would not hurt to ask EVGA

What are you fellas using for your HTPC video cards?

FX5200 passively cooled is what I use and is the most common Linux based HTPC used because it has video overlay support. I think I paid $10-20 for a FX5200 about 18 months ago. You don't need much of a video card just to have good TV/Movie playback. All the FX cards have video overlay...

    I am torn on Q6600/E6850

Would not 4 overclocked cores generate much more heat then 2 overclocked cores? So you would rather deal with a know of much more heat today, then a unknown of maybe someday a game will be released that you also happen to like to play that takes advantage of 4 cores?

Thinking of buying an 8800GTS 640MB

I play basically the same games. I didn't notice a huge improvement in Source or 2142 because I could already run at high settings with good fps, but I do see a big difference in the ETQW beta because I could go from med to max settings which makes a big difference of image quality on that...
