Jiffy, do you have C3 and C6 reporting enabled in the BIOS by any chance? Are you using XMP profile? Since I disabled them I have not had a lock up in days. Just curious.
That is an interesting bit of information. And if it is to fix a problem that is hardware related does that mean ASUS will be replacing 3.0 boards with 3.1 boards. Cant wait to see how that one shapes up.
So far the changes I have made resulted in no USB shutdown and no freezes. What really...
Thanks Bankster! That is valuable information. I decided I am going to give it a little more time to figure it out. After reading some of those posts I made a few changes that have seemed to help others out.
1. Disabled the PLL overvoltage adjustment.
2. Disabled the C3 and C6 reporting
3...
Came across this post on one of the Asus forums. Apparently this is not an isolated incident. A lot of issues surrounding the P8P67 boards from what I am reading.

I'm going to give this...
Thanks for the responses Bankster. I've been able to replicate the problem on a fresh new Windows 7 install using a standard SATA drive. From the symptoms I am starting to believe this is not BIOS related. And from the lack of reports I am seeing I think this is an isolated incident related...
The first two screens have already been performed. I upgraded to 1502 today. I will also confirm/upgrade to USB driver 2.0.4.0.
Its actually gotten worse since I upgraded to 1502. First time its shut down on me while using the computer.
Just spoke to Asus tech support. The woman said if the BIOS is at the latest and greatest along with the chipset drives then the issue could be related to a bad capacitor or something on the board related to power for the USB to just shutoff.
Please Microcenter, get stock soooooon!!!
Well, the issue happened again and again I had to cold boot to get the ports back. As soon as Microcenter has more stock this board is going back for replacement! This is beyond frustrating. The USB ports just go dead. It hasn't happened while using the PC though. When the PC is sitting...
I saw there is a later BIOS than the one I am currently running. I just upgraded to it today and am keeping my fingers crossed. Since this issue occurs everyday I should know fairly quickly if this BIOS fixes the issue. Even though there is no mention of a USB improvement in the BIOS...
All Legacy USB is enabled in the BIOS (those are the default settings as well). They are plugged in to the USB 2.0 ports on the back (black). After experiencing the problem I even tried the USB 3.0 ports on the back. It happened again this morning where I had to cold reboot. Very frustrating...
Thanks for the tip. I actually experienced the same issue on a clean install on a spare drive I have. I'm not sure if a reinstall would help in my case.
Well, I finally picked up my replacement motherboard from Microcenter this past weekend and put everything back to working order. Windows booted, asked to reactivate and I was on my way except for one weird issue which has not gone away.
After about an hour or 2 it appears that the USB ports...
Same here. I bought mine from MC and received an email stating they would handle the return and notify when the new board comes in. That is a lot more convenient for me since it is close by and I dont have to worry about shipping anything back. I'm going to hold off with the Asus RMA site and...
4gb should be fine for what you describe. But if you feel like you want to max out the memory to 8gb you can and that OS will be able to see and use it all. It's up to you. But IMHO you should be good with 4gb for now.
I've been one of the fortunate so far. First thing I did when I built my new system was cleared the CMOS since it was suggested on these forums and then updated the UEFI to 1253. SSD is on SATA port 3, data drive on SATA port 4 and DVD-W on SATA port 5. No issues to date. Never had the...
I have a license so that was never a concern. I had heard/read about Virtualbox and was considering making a jump if there was a compelling reason. According to the responses I received there does not appear to be one.
Thanks for the all the replies thus far. Sounds like I will stick to Vmware Workstation v7 for now. It's never caused me any problems in the past so I will stick with what works.
Much appreciated!
I've always been a VMware Workstation user when it comes to creating VMs to run various OSes and applications. I recently discovered Virtualbox which appears to have the same functionality as VMware Workstation v7 and at a much better price.
Are there any real differences between the two...
Do you know if you are able to control the fan speed when connected to the pwr_fan connector through UEFI or a Windows based solution? Does the pwr_fan operate the same way the cha_fan connectors?
I am in the process of building my new PC and have a question regarding connecting my case fans to my motherboard. My case currently has 3 fans (HAF 922). My mobo (Asus P8P67 Pro) has only 2 cha_fan connections. I connected 2 of my case fans to the cha_fan connectors but now am left with one...
I normally right click the folders you want to move (My Docs, My Pics, etc), select properties and then select the Location tab. Change the location of each folder to your preferred location on your storage drive and you are done.
I go one step further and redirect those default Windows folders to my storage drive. This way I don't even have to worry about copying them back and forth. If you have RAID or some type of backup that gives you additional insurance from data loss.
I personally went with 8gb because I use my PC for more than gaming and the 8gb comes in handy. Because you never know what you will use the PC for down the road.
I went with the G.Skill 1600 non-X series:

Here is another good read:

I've read great reviews on this memory and it's $20 cheaper:

You really won't notice a difference between CAS7 and 9. Read this article:

Does anyone know the difference between the Ripjaws X DDR3-1600 and the non-X series Ripjaws DDR3-1600? The specs are identical yet the X series is cheaper on New Egg. I'm deciding which RAM to get for my i5-2500k build. I have not seen any reviews for the X series. The reviews for the non-X...
