    Q6600 running this cool normal?

Low, but not impossible. You have a good cooler and a good mount with AS5 on a GO. Magic 8-ball sez: Prognosis for OC is very good. P.S., My idle temps are in the mid to upper 30s with the rig listed below.

    Help -- New IP35 / E2160 Installation, What's Wrong?

I have the same board and the same memory. You're on the right track. Leave the voltage at 2.2. Less may not be stable and more won't help. My 2x1gb set will hold 4,4,4,12 timings until about 440 fsb, any higher and you need to move back to 5,5,5,15. I didn't really test the top end because...

What do you run as a daily overclock speed?

3.6 with C1E and EIST, idles at 2.4. 1.47v in bios, 1.42 at load, 1.3 (VID) at idle. In other words, my GO Q6600 idles at its full rated speed and default voltage with temps in the mid 30s. When I need the horsepower it kicks up to a 50 percent overclock. With all four cores loaded in S&M the...

Quad Core Q6600 VS Intel Core 2 Duo E6750...

    Q6600 G0 questions

There's an advantage to running at the stock 9X multiplier. You can still enable C1E and EIST so that your cpu won't be running full-bore when you don't need it. Intel indended Speedstep to extend the life of the processor by lowering the voltage and multiplier when the chip is idling. When you...

Advice on upgrade, please (E6750vsQ6600 + mobo + ram)

P35 is an Intel chipset and certified for next-gen Penryn cpus. There are some that also work with DDR3 ram in addition to DDR2, but neither the boards nor the memory are worth the price difference as of now, IMHO. I did a fair amount of homework before spending my own hard-earned cash on a...

Advice on upgrade, please (E6750vsQ6600 + mobo + ram)

The newer P35 is a very competent overclocker and a good all-round chipset. There are reviews of these various boards suggested that do performance comparisons. I think it'll be a while before X38 boards have a chance to prove themselves. With any new chipset it takes a few bios updates and...

Advice on upgrade, please (E6750vsQ6600 + mobo + ram)

Go with the Q6600 for future proofing. UT3 will use the extra cores. The OC potential is almost as good and overall performance likely better. I'd suggest a P35 motherboard, and the Abit IP35 Pro is one of the best, IMHO. There are lots of memory choices. For a quad, any good DDR2 800...

    Q6600 Weird Issue

With the parts you have, there shouldn't be a problem at 3 ghz. Read the guide and review your settings so the ram is running at the correct voltage and at or below its rated speed. You shouldn't have to change any of the other defaults except for setting the fsb to 333. If you do have a...

The Abit IP35-E QuicksilverX1 recommends is an excellent low-cost choice. I wouldn't worry too much about B3 vs GO steppings on a Q6600. Unless you're planning to seriously overclock your wife's new computer (in which case you'll be spending more time playing with it than she will,) it's not...

Are the latest LCDs any better than my old CRT/LCD?

That is the conventional wisdom. But all the big names, Samsung, LG, Dell, HP, Acer, etc, have been working hard to make the TNs look their best. I think they've gotten close enough with color reproduction that you'd never know the difference unless you're a calibration freak or a graphic artist...

I use a Rosewill RCX-Z775-EX. It's fairly quiet, medium-sized as heat-pipe towers go, build quality and appearance are excellent and it does a good job for less money than some of the more extreme choices. The Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme is best in class, but it's huge, heavy and costs...

Are the latest LCDs any better than my old CRT/LCD?

Another LCD worth looking at is the LG 226WTQ. It's a 22" widescreen 22", 2ms response-time monitor that looks great after a little tweaking or with a good ICM profile. The LG and the Samsung 226BW (I wouldn't get the 226CW now, there are some quirks that counterbalance the wider color...

Can somebody please tell me how to set my multiplier?

You can take the multiplier DOWN, but not UP. Many people do it to increase bandwidth at the same cpu clock. For example, in theory 8x400=3.2 ghz should give you higher memory benchmarks than 9x356=3.2 ghz on the same Q6600 setup. Personally, I prefer using the stock multiplier and...

UPDATE: I pull the trigger on the LG 226WT

Color gamut isn't the be-all end-all for monitors, and I'm a bit leery of some of the other spec changes in the Samsung 226CW. I certainly wouldn't pay more to trade a monitor as good as the LG 226WTQ for one as new and untested as the 226CW -- especially when it looks as bad as this compared to...

For gaming: moderately overclocked quad, heavily overclocked Core 2 Duo?

Hey, if it was that easy to hit 3.6 ghz, it wouldn't take guys as smart as me and you to accomplish it. There's a lot of variation between chips as far as voltage and heat that effect the max OC. The Q6600 is the current overclock king, but I think it's a stretch to say that 3.6 ghz on air...

Water? Never touch the stuff. I do have a Sonata with twin 120s in and out. My temps are CoreTemp, confirmed by adding +15 to Speedfan. 1.47v is what it takes to run perfectly stable at 3.6 on my GO stepping Q6600 with vid of 1.31. I could get 3.0g at the stock voltage, 3.2g at 1.35, 3.4 at...

    Will a Q6700 over=clock higher than a Q6600?

IMHO, you're better off with the lower multiplier. As far as strain on the ram, with the Q6600, running DDR 800 in spec at 1:1 gives you 3.6 ghz at 9x. You've got a much better chance of hitting that than 10x400=4ghz on the Q6700. Save your money.

Yes, it's acetone. But it cuts the grease better and removes it with less scraping and hassle. Afterwards, wiping with a damp sponge and drying with a clean cloth removes any residue. Been raiding the wife's medicine cabinet for years. No grief from the chips, only a little from her.

q6600 on abit ip35-3 oc question

The "double boot" is normal for the IP35-E and some other IP35 chipset boards. Abit has released a beta bios that eliminates it (except for the first boot after you change memory timings or clear the CMOS.) If it doesn't bother you, you can ignore it. If it does, you can find the beta bios...

    Over-heating CPU!

Well, to start with, we're smarter than the guys at TomsHardware. If CoreTemp reports your cpu idling in the 40s and in the 60s when loaded, that's pretty much what a Q6600 with a stock cooler is supposed to do. That's safe, and as long as the system is stable you'll be fine. You could...

Best way to play DVD's on the computer?

    Over-heating CPU!

Yes. 1.8v is the lowest common denominator for ram to boot in the bios, but the memory you are using is not designed to run 24/7 at a voltage that low. Your memory is rated by Corsair at 2.1 volts. I suspect that's the cause of your reboots. You have nothing to lose by setting the voltage...
