I bought a 1440p panel at Diablo 3's launch while I was still running a Core2 Duo 8400/GTX480 build. I decided at that time to upgrade my rig the following BF/CM. You know what I saw during the season of sales that year?? A bunch of crap being sold as door busters and flash sales. With the...
I'm not really sure about MC and VC's. Usually the best sales on mid to high end card's happen when online merchants push out remaining inventory to make room for newer model stuff. That or open box items... I don't think I will end up picking up my cards from MC but we shall see...
Thanks! I am keeping an eye out...
I ended up getting a new power supply (PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk III Series 850W Modular) with the intention of scoring SLI 4GB 770's this BF/CM. I was able to sell my old setup to a co-worker for a few hundred $$, which let me move up on the GPU's and...
I think you missed the point. No one here told him to get a cheapo motherboard. They just suggested instead of spending $350 on a MB he could spend ~$200 and upgrade his peripherals.
How many times (since you built your computer) have you had to look at, hold, wear (headphones) your motherboard? Peripherals are absolutely the most important part of your daily computing experience... Who cares if you have the fastest setup alive when you are dissatisfied with the way you...
Welp Lack of Patience > Saving $$
I don't know how I waited this long to upgrade and I couldn't wait another 2 weeks for BF/CM but oh well. I'm happy with what I found and hopefully I can score a great GPU and possibly a PS if needed.
Thanks to everyone who posted. I really appreciate the...
Congrats! Glad you were able to cash in on the deal. Remember, even if you find yourself having regrets in a month you can resell the parts to someone that isn't near a MC... probably still for a profit :D
My plan was to wait for Cyber Monday to pass before I pulled the trigger on RAM... But seeing as it and the case are the only 2 things holding me back (I can wait on the GPU for another month) I am finding myself wanting to over pay for the RAM now rather than wait another 2 weeks to start...
For RAM, assuming I only wanted to get 8GB... Will the performance take a big hit if I only get one 8GB stick and run it single channel? Should I really buy 2 4GB sticks for the benefit of dual channel?
Thanks for the explanation. I'll take a look in to the wireless bridges, seems perfect for me as my desktop is upstairs and the router will be downstairs. I don't own the house I live in so I couldn't get authorization to have COMCAST run cabling upstairs to connect the modem.
I'm attempting...
I'm considering moving up in GPU because I was able to save so much on my CPU/mobo.
The more and more I read about which GPU to purchase I am lead to believe I should wait for an aftermarket cooled 290. They are on par with the 780 and much cheaper. I guess there is a flaw in the cooling...
I really like that techguru website in your sig.
The TV has a wired option. When you say bridge are you talking about an Ethernet cable plugged into dongle device that creates a "wireless tunnel" to the router? I am familiar with what a hardware bridge is (very old). Are you referring to the...
I am definitely still using a 802.11abg router from 2008... I don't really have a file server yet so I haven't prioritized an upgrade for my router until now. The wife wants to start streaming media to the TV so I figured I should include 802.11ac into my desktop upgrades even though the TV...
Yea I don't see the 4770k getting any cheaper this year or the next for that matter... The mobo's/ram will get cheaper if you do end up waiting for a year though.
I talked to the sales rep last night @ Micro Center and asked him why they are selling the 4770k for ~$150 below MSRP. He said that they offer these deals strategically from time to time to get people into the store. They take a loss on the CPU but make up for it on the other parts they...
That looks like the road map I set out for myself last night before I went to Micro Center. Good stuff. I'm not looking to run maxed out everything on my 1440p panel, but I would like to turn on the flashy stuff and run most stuff on high for a year or two. Could a single 770 handle that job...
I think you are definitely correct. I'll start looking into the A/C market myself for a non-integrated solution. Where can I look at the Microcenter combo deals? Thanks for the suggestion.
- UPDATE - I went to Micro Center and purchased the bundle combo 4770K/Asrock Z87 Extreme4 for ~$310 with tax last night. Too good of a deal to pass up.
1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
I currently use a PC that I made back in late 2008...
Definitely wait. I am not a big proponent of waiting for releases because you'll always end up waiting, but you'll be better off waiting to see if the new releases live up to the hype. Prices can only go down!
I have an AM2 5200+ proc, and one of my RAM sticks just died on me. So, I am looking to buy a new 2 GB set. I was thinking about over clocking this rig until I get a new computer in Q1 2008. Soooo my question is: What do I look for in RAM when buying for an AMD CPU/platform? From What I have...

He is right, i didnt even look at the PSU. $30 on a PSU??? You need to get a more reputable vendor. Check out this thread for a list of good PSU's http://www.xtremesystems.org/f...howthread.php?t=108088
That looks like a pretty decent build, Brisbanes are really overclockable. That monitor doesnt really look like the best deal, you can probably find something better that has 1600x1200 res, that one has 1440 x 900. Unless ofcourse you already know this. I would hit accept, everything else looks...
Your getting way bent out of shape over a simple misunderstanding. My intention is to help, but you have a smartass comback for everything I say... I agree I was looking at a higher price range than you, but your first post leaves alot to be deciphered. You want a $600 computer with a 8800 GS...
Then put 600 as your limit in your first post, like the forumn rules state. If people actually did this, then arguements like these wouldnt come up. Yes, a Dell is as good as your going to get for 600 bucks, good luck.
Just trying to help out. You said your budget was 1000. For 1,200 you can get a top of the line 8800 GTX and overclock it close to an ultra. Or just buy a dell for 700 then buy a 8800 320MB for ~300 and get an over all crappier computer. In the end your the one making the decisions, as backwards...
When you say 8800 I assume you mean a GTX. Then you say your not getting one, and now your saying you are getting one. I agree we see this from a different angle, your looking at it from an extreme budget view and I see it from a "whats another 100 dollars going to hurt" view. I think we can...
And a 128MB NVIDIA 8300 GSCertified Refurbished isnt a piece of crap? Lol, I am done trying to help you out man. Your logic is screwed up, no wonder you want to buy a Dell and then immediatly upgrade it! Lol!
Your making alot of assumptions abiout these guys. I dont know either way, but writing them off like that doesnt make any sence to me. If you look at the front page they display that they are a reputable computer vendor with a few notable awards.
It comes with two 512MB 8500GT's. I think your confused, the combo I linked you is a package deal that is a total of $895. If you go adding and subtracting parts to it then its no longer the combo, its a custom build which ofcourse is going to cost you more.
