Agree! I looked at those stats and have no idea what deal HumblePie found. Fantastic purchase. Mine was a similar build with following changes : 6GB Ram instead of 8GB GT525M Instead of GT540M 750GB HD instead of 640GB This ran to 1071 after taxes.

Nvidia optimus worth while?

So far, I'm underwhelmed with the power-saving ability. I bought an optimus enabled laptop for 3-D editing on the train, went with DELL XPS15, i7 SB, and Geforce 525M. Just using CPU alone, a charged battery gives me about 6.5 hours of life (just based on what the calc in the system tray tells...

I think you are overdoing it, at that price point money really starts to evaporate. And forget the future proofing part. Buy a $1000 dollar laptop and put the remainder in savings, maybe even invest it. Take it out 2 years later for another $1000 dollar laptop, and then again 2 years after...

~ $1000. For Optimus, is the switching initiated by the User, or does the software/hardware determine which to use?

In checking out reviews of the HP Envy 14, I noticed this review that mentioned being able to switch between the integrated and dedicated vid cards. Idea being when a power source was available, you'd use the Radeon 5650, and when on the go Integrated graphics would help conserve battery life...

Went ahead and bought one, checked it out, and now it's RMA. The biggest problem was the i7 not having an integrated graphics card. I shoulda seen that coming - battery with the GPU active was near dead at 1:30. The other problem was the touchpad. UDK has a movement control where you...

I found a $300 off with the i7 720 1.6Ghz version plus HD upgrade to 640gb. All configured and with the coupon, it's $999. I have until tonight to decide (unless they run out of inventory). Is this a good deal, or should I just wait til January?
