Question 'Ampere'/Next-gen gaming uarch speculation thread

Have you ever looked at a lower quality image of anything and 'fixed' it visually in your mind? Or look at re-masters of old video's that are made to look better than the original recording. Feed an algorithm enough content and it can guess what a lower quality image should have looked like...

AMD goes fermi

I wouldn't count too much on a HD7790 to become an impressive card. The whole sad thing with the prices is that you usually got 30 to 50% more FPS for the same, or maybe 10-20% more, money. Now you get ~40% more FPS (over the 6970) for 60% more money.

Worth it

Well I upgraded from a 9800GTX and in my opinion it's a nice update. It's nice in Crysis (about same FPS with 4x AA on the 4870 1GB compared to 0X AA with the 9800GTX) and awesome in Race Driver Grid/Supreme Commander.

Will a socket 939 PC bottleneck a 4870?

Yes it will, my Opteron 170, clocked at 3GHz, used to neck my 8800GTS 640MB back then... I upgraded to an E6750 and even on stock it was faster. The impact on the limit will depend on the game tough (don't run 3Dmark ;))

buying new card. can't decide

Maybe he wrote it a little stupid then, but the GTX280 costs about 400 after the rebate I guess? (damn cheap americans...) That is still $150 more than the 4870 after the rebate. So yes, if a card that sometimes gets beaten by a cheaper card that is only 62.5% of the price I would think twice.

ATi 4xxx Series Review

Exactly, from an Opteron 170 (running @ 3GHz speeds which gove the same benchmark results as a stock x2 6000+ in about 90% of the benchmarks that I ran) to an E6750 stock boosted my fps by like 200% during raiding, now with my overclocked Q6600 it just doesn't drop below my vsync standards in...

World of Warcraft and SLI

Games that need 4GB ram in Vista are games like Crysis, not WoW.... As mentioned earlier: WoW is CPU limited. Going from an Opteron 170 at 3GHz (basically same benchmark results of an AMD x2 6000 stock) to an E6750 increased my fps by 300% or something. Now with a Q6600 & a 9800GTX I sometimes...
