Lowrider... I also have a q6600. I am running at 277 fsb with no problems. I am running 2gig DDR2 and an AGP video card. Booting clean is the wall. I can go faster if I use the setfsb utility.

I'd like to know if this new All-in-wonder card would work with the SATA2 board. http://www.visiontek.com/produ...ter/allinwonderHD.html I don't see the 3650 chipset specifically listed on the VGA support list. Also I am a little concerned that video recording might need to take...

I'm still sitting at rev 1.5 bios. I there any compelling reason to update to the newer BIOS? Any new settings availible for a faster overclock?

Yes I do. I also have core ,3.3,5.0,and 12 voltages and two fan speeds displayed. Download and install http://www.almico.com/speedfan434.exe Start speedfan and then minimize it. Gkrellm uses speedfan to get the sensor values. Next, fire up gkrellm right click title bar ->...

No, I mean something that shows you how much each processor core is being utilized. Like the bars you get in task manager.

Does anybody know of a good multi-core processor load utility for XP? I was thinking along the lines of something similiar to gkrellem for linux.

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

One problem I have recently discovered with this board. The USB ports have limited current handling capacity. FLASH USB pens work fine, as do my other USB peripherals But if I try to connect a 2.5" laptop drive in an external USB enclosure it will have difficulty spinning up or will...

Why is that odd? Faster bus speed = faster 3dmark. Right?

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

Yep, it's a decent board if your not into overclocking. I just hope we start to see some decent parallel applications that can really take advantage of multiple cores before my q6600 becomes obsolete. Actually what would be nice is a good multi-core linux distribution. Not just an smp...

IDE to SATA Adapter, anyone have exeperience?

I recently purchased this ide/sata adapter: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5458 This converter board is based on a Sunplus "satalink" chip. I have tested it with a variety of older 2.5" and 3.5" IDE drives that I had laying around and they all seem to work just fine with it...

OK, here is the latest in the IDE/SATA converter saga. It is not defective. I could not get it to work with my 200gig WD IDE drive. However, it does work with an assortment of about 5 different older 2.5" laptop drives I have here. These are various manufacturers (toshiba, hitachi...

wineo, cmpee, I keep thinking that maybe I am doing something wrong with the adapter. I am going to try again here in a moment. Here is the one I am trying to get to work: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5458

I bought a Bilateral IDE/SATA adapter. Mail ordered it cheap from Hong Kong (I think it was $6 USD or so) I still have an older IDE drive and I thought it would be nice to get rid of the ribbon cable. Although I also have a newer SATA drive that I normally boot off of. Anyway, the little...

    SATA/IDE converter problem

I have two hard drives. The older drive is IDE and the new drive is SATA. The bios is configured to boot off of the SATA drive. I wanted to reduce cable clutter so I ordered a "bilateral IDE to SATA" converter board. The little board is fairly simple. it has two SATA connectors and and...

Sorry I was traveling this week. I did twiddle with the dram settings this evening and was able get from 5200mb/s to 5600mb/s in Sandra. Thanks for the tips. Every little bit helps. Still at the wall of 280fsb though. Probably have to do a physical mod to break past that.

No, Previously I had all the memory timings set for auto. Ir un memory at normal and AGP high. Cmpee, tested for 1 hr with memtest86 boot CD. Seems OK. When I had set 1T before it was an instant failure. Your "I get 5700 mb/s with 3-3-3-9 2T ddr2 533 in Sandra XI" is with manual...

Wonders never cease. Guess what? Today I thought I would experiment with cmpee's memory bios settings. They seemed to work OK. On a whim I decded to try 1T command rate again. It now works! Go figure. I now get 5372mb/s in Sandra XII. Used to be 5200 or so. Now I have to go back...

You can try it, but 1T more than likely will be unstable. I have DDR2-667 and I cannot run at 1T. For this type of experimenting it is better to get the memtest bootable CD than to boot into OS/hd. Let's you confirm memory is good before letting Windows do the fandango on core...

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

Yep, and I would add that I am set to "auto" for all the memory settings, I just set memory clock for ddr2-533 (266mhz), flexibility off and manually set the fsb to 266 (or more for oc).

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

Alex, Let's get that board at 1:1 ratio and at least fsb 266. If you were running that before you should have no trouble doing so now. Make sure you have the flexibility option turned off in the BIOS. Get everything stable and then start bumping up the fsb a few mhz at a time. Also set...

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

Yea, I think it's that "SMARTGART" feature of the ATI driver that goes and trys to figure out the best AGP settings that causes the boot problems. I am running an old All-In-Wonder 9000. I have gone through several "Catalyst" driver upgrades and finally I hit one rev where the TV recording...

No, In fact as soon as I saw your post I pulled the cover off my case and did a "touchy feely" on the two mosfets near the ATX connector and the others along the top edge of the board and none of them feel hot.
  28. B

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

I think you are partially correct. Which is a good thing! After reading your post I decided to go into my BIOS and set the AGP Voltage to "High". Believe it or not, I have never done this before. Sure enough I am now able to boot at 280 fsb. Now here is what I think. I still think it's...

Sorry kdkwarhead, I did not notice in your earlier post that you also have Q6600. So from your data it looks like you also hit the 277 barrier, and you are running ATI AGP video like me. On the other hand I think Alex0915 is not AGP but PCI Express. It will be interesting to see if he can...

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

OK, someone else with a Q6600 and can run a higher than default fsb. Now the big question Alex0915, how high can you go on the fsb and still boot the system successfully? The highest I can get on mine is 277fsb... Also, what kind of memory do you have?

I have PNY Memory 2x1gig DDR2 667 The cpu-z utility reports it as: PC2-5300 (333mhz) Hyundai Electronics HYMP512U64CP8-Y5 and 4-4-4-12-16 timings @ 266mhz speed I didn't buy it at newegg but this looks close: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820178134

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

You bought too fast memory for this board, and it does not like it. You would have been better off with just PC-5300 memory and the flexibility option turned off. This board runs better at DDR2-533 bios setting.

With HDTach and the latest VIA drivers I get 176MB/s Average Burst 69.7MB/s Average Read, 12.6 ms random access time. This is a Western Digital WD2500AAKS (250.1GB). I have it's jumper set for SATA II (not sure how much difference that makes). Now, I believe I have the latest VIA SATA...

ayumu, I also plan to run linux on this board. I did read that there were some compatability issues with the VIA chip set. Something about the SATA not seen correctly. Did you run into any problems? Were you able to get the on board audio to work?

    Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2

FWIW, I am getting 5261 int and 5277 float with fsb @277 and 1:1 with 4-4-4-12-2T. If I switch to 333 mhz memory clock the ratio goes to 4:5 and I get slightly less performance. I am still on the 1.50 bios.

chemchris Pretty strange, looks like CPU-Z can read the SPD data from the second dimm, but the system can't see the memory. I think there is something wrong with the actual dimm connector or the soldering between it and the board. I am assuming you can swap the two sticks around and you...
