No question - they work great with the latest beta BIOS. I'm typing this on K6-III+ 450 @ 550 on P5A (don't ask why when I have a 1GHz T-Bird downstairs - lazy I guess).
I have the 4 in 1s installed but not that IDE driver. Is there any benefit of installing it other than the identification? My disks scores seem to be very good when I benchmark.
EvilKnevil - RMA your soyo for the Epox or MSI or ASUS. I'm SO pleased with my Thunderbird system now on a good board. That along with my old K6III+ on an ASUS P5A+ are as stable (or maybe more so) then any Intel chipset based system I've ever had!
I recently built a system using the same Soyo and had tons of problems. I have crucial ram, approved power supply, the right drivers, etc. etc. I RMAed the Soyo (from mwave also) for the Epox board and now the system is incredibly stable - I also can't get it to crash!!
I highly recommend...
I'm currently in the process of upgrading a system and was wondering if I should dump the cheap ISA SCSI card that came with a CD burner I have? The card's used only for a Plextor CD ROM and a CDR. If so, I asume I don't need one with a SCSI bios because I'm not going to be booting from it...
I've checked all the connections and obvious stuff and I have the board in auto mode so I haven't tried to change any jumpers - if the RAM doesn't do it then I guess I'll started by RMAing the mobo which I hope I don't have to and finally if that doesn't work I'll try RMAing the processor...
Has anyone ever experienced this problem due to memory where the system just randomly rebooted but otherwise ran perfectly? I hope it is the memory and that the new high quality memory will solve this problem.
This is my first experience with a VIA chipset. My other computer is a K6III+...
I tried other RAM that I have already and I just ordered a 128MB PC133 Cas 2 DIMM from Crucial. Would RAM just make it run fine and then randomly reboot back into Windows? I haven't experienced any lockups or BSOD or anthing?
Thanks again.
I just built a new Athlon system with a 1 GHz retail athlon on a Soyo K7VTA-B board and it keeps rebooting at random intervals - even when doing nothing. I swapped out my power supply for an AMD approved 400W, I've tried every setting in the BIOS, upgradded the BIOS to the latest one and I even...
I got that MB as a Christmas present from my brother (of course I told him what to buy!) and am waiting for my 1GHz T-Bird to come today! I too wanted the ISA slot and it was the only board I came across that was well rated, had an ISA and multiplier adjustments. As a bonus, the version...
Is there any ripper/encoder that works with this drive as is? That's the main reason I bought it (DAE) but it doesn't work with any I've tried. The NERO upgrade does seem to work.
I did unstall the 3dfx drivers and switch to basic VGA first. I really don't want to have to reinstall Windows, it's been incredibly stable lately.
Any other sugestions? I know someone here can help me out.
Thanks!
I just upgraded from a Banshee to a G450 Dual Head (you can see I'm not a big gamer!) and I have one problem. I uninstalled the old drivers, etc and everything works great except every time I boot up I get a RUNDLL error saying "error loading 3dfxVBps.dll - system can't find specific...
That's pretty funny considering I'm typing this on a K6III+ running on a an ASUS P5A (recognized by the latest beta BIOS as such). It's running at 550 right now and will boot at 600! The point is that I and many others (search hot deals) bought this for $54 a few weeks ago as a last upgrade...
This chip has got to be the best upgrade for the money I've ever done! After flashing the BIOS on my P5A to 1011.002 beta it is recognized as a K6-III 550 and the system seems completely stable so far (running at 2.1V). I haven't tried to go any higher. Before the flash the system recognized...
Wow - I'm not used to so many people actually agreeing with me! That said, I'm sure the AMD chipset will be the best because like Intel the chip manufacturer usually makes the best chipset for their chip! I don't think too highly of VIA chipsets they just were in a position to capitalize on...
I have hopes for ALi. I've been running an overclocked K6-2 on an ASUS P5A (Alladin 5) for a year and a half and the machine is incredible stable (better than my Celeron on an LX). Yes they had AGP problems but their memory performance and stability is better than VIA's super 7 chipset. If...
