Who's got the greatest OC?

I knew someone who got about a 300-400% increase from their TI86 calculator. It has a Z80 processor at a default 8Mhz, I think. He took it into the 20-30Mhz range.

Crucial DDR just got even cheaper!!

Talking about long term price hikes (6 months was mention earlier). In the summer of 1999, 128MB of PC100 CS2 was about $100. In March of 2000 (when I built my current system), my 128MB of PC133 was $210.

Will AMD ever become a chipset manufacturer?

Currently AMD is using every available inch of fab space to build CPU's/Flash which have a higher profit margin compared to chipsets. Give them a few more years of good profits and the opportunity to expand their facilities.

Little more then 2 years left.

I haven't kept up on it, but is it possible to bitslice using SSE2. If so, the P4 could be about as fast as the G4 clock/clock. That is scary!

GeForce 3 - Cheaper than first thought!

I don't really see why anyone would pick up a GeForce3. It is hardly any faster in today's games, and when games come out for the GeForce3, it will be a slow card. I believe Carmack stated that the GeForce3 would be able to run Doom at 30fps, 800x600 in high quality. It reminds me of people...

Radeon II won't be out until Q4... I guess that means Radeon II will have to compete with GF3 ULTRA? or possibly 4..

The human eye can see more than 30fps. I am not sure what the true number is, but it is much higher. The reason television and films can get away with 29 is because they have motion blur. Watch the scene with Darth Maul spinning his dual light saber in slow motion. It actually begins to form...

The reason they don't do it is economics. Generally, you don't release your biggest and baddest now because you can sell it twice. If Intel and AMD were not to ramp up speeds as they do, and just release what they are capable of, people would not buy nearly as many chips. And if you are...

Klipsch Pro Media 4.2. anybody used them? How do they sound?

I thought he was saying that by hooking up two 2.1 systems, that would cut the wattage in half, like you weren't also introducing a new amplifier. Just some fuzzy wording:) Personally, I'd go for the 4.1's out of any of the Klipsch systems. You aren't going to get any better bass out of two...

About the CP1 helping with the crossover, this is false. The speaker circuitry itself had to be modified to get the full effect. Why would the wattage be halfed in the 4.2 setup? You are taking 2 independant 2.1 setups and using both of them.

AMD stability and choice between P4....

I have an AMD classic 700, which I leave on for weeks at a time on 98SE:) The machine I built for my roomie, Duron on an Asus A7V had a BSOD. He remarked, "what is this!?" It was his first in six months on 98SE. Athlons are great for stability now!

Would a 26db fan be reasonably quiet?

ok I understand some of this distributed computing stuff but......

From a pure efficiency standpoint, run RC5 on the Athlon and run OGR on the K6-2. That would give you (and the team) the most work per cycle:) Personally, I am a RC5 and SETI junkie, they're both great!

GF3 not (significantly, if any) faster than GF2 Ultra (new benchmarks!)

The Geforce2 Ultra actually should be faster in low resolutions and 16bit color, it can do more pixels/second. Where the Geforce will shine is in DirectX 8 titles and in higher resolutions/32bit color. Of course, the next generation of cards will be out by the time good DirectX titles start...

Actually, the RAMDAC is integrated into the NV20 core, the companies cannot alter it. The image quality problems come from poor RFI filters I believe.

How much does it cost to physically produce a video card such as the Geforce 3?

pm, I guess the RAM would be a little more expensive than that. This is 4ns DDR memory, so if you wanted to know the "bus" speed, it would be 250Mhz DDR.

Is a 733 P3 more powerful than a 405mhz G4?

I believe it is because AMD would not have the fabrication capacity needed. M$ is going to need a huge amount of chips very quickly, I don't think AMD could produce enough by October (unless they have been stockpiling them). Who knows, we'll have to wait and see. I personally hope AMD gets...
