    Icq banner messages

I use an older client. I'm currently using 99a, which was made before the ads started. It also has less crap built in, although it isn't as clean as the really old versions.

Whichi s better - tennmax lasagna or thermaltake blueorb?

IMO, the lasagna looks a lot neater than those orb things. The lasagna is better suited for a motherboard chipset anyway. I have one on my GF2 MX card, and I've used one of their older models on my TNT2.

New Pentium 4 ATX Cases Suitable for Athlon Socket A?

No. The power supply is totally different. You'd need to stick an ATX PS in there for it to work...if they fit.

What do you think of this bizzare HS?

The mixture will actually move around when it is heated in one spot...much like a car radiator without a pump. The hot stuff will rise to the top and the cool stuff will fall to the bottom where it will be heated, and keep on going.

Looking for ATX Case with USB Ports on Front

How about this? Pic 1 Pic 2 I added my own! It took a while, but they work great and don't use up the ports on the back. I have a MSI 694D motherboard with the front USB headers.

    Networking Question...

You don't need to worry about the latency in your local network. The latency between you and your ISP and everything after that will affect you the most.

Poll: Poll: How much Ram you running on??

I have an insane amount...384 in this system, 384 in the server, and 256 in my old P2 450. I really don't need it all, but it's just so damn cheap...

    WIll CPU Overheat damage it?

Any decent CPU or graphics chip will have a means of shutting itself down when the temperature is too high. AMD Athlon's don't have this...which is extremely stupid of them because of how much heat they generate.

    It this Antec SX-830?

This is just the Antec sold by a different company which will bundle whatever they want with it. Maybe the fifth fan is referring to the power supply fan...yes, it is still incorrect.

Antec SX830 - Front USB port mod!

Weird things can happen when you're bored...you could find yourself cutting holes in the front of your case...as I just did. I (almost) installed two USB ports in the front of this thing. Here's the pics. USB pic 1 USB pic 2 USB pic 3 It took about 3 hours, and I'm not even done yet. I cut...

is the stock INTEL cpufan/heatsink any good?

It'll work fine even with the pre-applied compound. Don't waste your money on that silver junk. I find the fans to be noisy though...especially with two.

    Mikey Finnally getting some Props!

Do you think Dell systems are really "THAT" good....

HellRaven: you bring up some good points, many of which I agree with. Many companies and IT departments just don't feel the need to switch over to something different. Perhaps they don't want to break a good relationship with the particular company they purchase computer equipment from. I am...

Network Experts, something for you: Is it possible to play games over the internet thru a Linux Masquerading?

PC will be gone just like Dinosaurs?

The PC won't die, but they will certainly not be what they are today. Remember the big predictions of centralized processing and smart terminals? It didn't catch on back then, and still won't today. Centralized computing is making a comeback, but only as an alternative to desktop...

    computer myths and outdated terms?

quote: "never unplug the keyboard or any cables of the computer while its on" Certain cables can be hot-swapped and others can't. This is partially true. PS/2 generally can't...it is said to cook the whole motherboard, but I do it all the time at work with no problems (one of these...

    computer myths and outdated terms?

I'll challenge a few of your "myths". Leaving a computer on constantly is much easier on it...especially the moving parts in your hard drive. Turning that thing on and off is more harmful to the spindle motor than leaving it on. ATX power supply or not, turning the power on and off...

Do you think Dell systems are really "THAT" good....

Dells are fantastic. I've used them at home and at work and they really are great stable and dependable machines. Their next-day on-site support is top-notch...you just have to know how to get past the front-line helpdesk. There is a lot more to a computer system than speed and...

Sb-Live, EAX is good or NOT ?

Now that Creative has A3D under its belt, we will never have good sound from our computers. Creative will definitely screw up A3D bigtime, probably by trying to combine it with EAX and Liveware (which alone strikes fear in any SB owner). Creative lost my support when the Live cards first came...

    Reality Check

If stability is a big factor, definitely go with an Intel CPU and chipset. Let's face it...AMD and Via products aren't as refined and perfected as Intel's. Oh, and if 2D is going to be used most of the time...go with a Matrox card. They have the best consumer-grade 2D stuff on the market.

What does it mean when your computer...

It has to be a problem with your video card. It isn't possible to pinpoint the faulty component on the card using only POST beeps, and it doesn't really matter since the card will probably have to be replaced. I hope it has a warranty... There are several POST beep codes that are usually the...

has anybody used a peltier to cool their case and noth their CPU

I had an idea like this a while ago, but I never implemented it. Using ducting you can blow the cool air from the cold heatsink to any component you like. The hot side could be in an isolated area of the case where air can from the outside can cool it, but not have the heatsink outside the...

    Antec SX830 Questions.

I found a way to mount drives in that lower cage with a fan in it by trimming the big handle part of the fan holder. I just cut off about 1/2 inch so it was flush with the inside face of the fan. After that, mount the drive in the middle of the cage and it will have tons of airflow around it...

Difference between the Sx830 and Sx1030

I DID IT! I just trimmed the big handle on the purple fan clip and I can hold two drives in there no problem! The clip part that holds the fan isn't a problem when the drives are in the right position, but it might be in the way with a different type of drive. If anyone wants pics, I'll try...

What do you people think of the PC Power & Cooling Silencer 80mm case fan? Anyone use any of these? They're the quietest I've seen so far at 20dBA and move 28CFM of air. Eventually I'll have a quiet machine!
