Will Apple launch iPhone 5s in this year?

I think the main "real" use for NFC is as a means for payment, which is how it's commonly used in S Korea and Japan. Integrating this with Passbook would make sense, but the infrastructure needs to be there in order for it to be useful.

Update: $299 + Free Shipping! 15" Ultrabook wannabe (great mom laptop)

Questions for the OP: Are the memory and hard drive bays accessible from the bottom, or do you have to dissemble the chassis, remove the keyboard, etc in order to get to it? Also, does it have the wobbly, single sensor spacebar? These were the main gripes with the X401a, and the X501a looks to...

Best and worst CPUs since 1998

I gotta give a +1 to the 533A. Weren't all that popular but a really good overclocker for the money. I had one @ 824MHz on an Abit VH6 with a Golden Orb. That combo was what replaced my 300A @464 on Abit BH6.

any cheap laptops with 32gb ram?

CPU hall of fame (sister-thread to the GPU one of same name in VC&G)

From my personal list of legendary CPUs, I started reading Anandtech because I went with the Celeron 300a @ 450MHz on an Abit BH6 a very, very long time ago. That compy got me through college. I gotta add the pencil trick Durons, I had a 700 @ 933 using the stock el cheapo heatsink fan, on some...

Motorcycle Helmets (HJC): CL-16 vs IS-16

I have an HJC CL-16, it's a decent full-face helmet and gets the job done, and if you buy retail and in person, they're usually around the $100-120 mark depending on whether they're on sale or not. While not the lightest, the construction is solid for its price point and the ventilation is good...

    Most Frustrating games ever

I'd go with most of the old Sierra Adventure Games with the parser, when you got stuck where had no freaking clue what to type. But at least there were countless creative ways you could die in those games.

Ever wonder what car sells fast? really fast?

Might also be because it's the last model year before a refresh. The incoming model is supposed to get better mileage than the current model and shouldn't cost much more so people might be waiting on the new one.

G620 CPU, Radeon HD 6670 GPU + Antec Earthwatts 380 PSU

When AT tested the Radeon 6670, even with an i7 920, it drew less than 200W (can it play Crysis? kindasortamaybe yeah but that was the full load test), so with the G620, assuming you want to reuse your old PSU should be fine.

What is the oldest Mac PC or Apple iPod that you own?

Sawtooth (AGP Graphics) PowerMac G4/400 from around 1999 or so. It works, but I don't use it for anything anymore. Also have a Mac Mini G4 1.25 from 2005 that mostly works (the Airport/Bluetooth riser card died so gotta go wired) and is only borderline useful as an everyday desktop, even just...

How capable is the hd3000 on the mac mini?

I think he's talking about the integrated Intel HD graphics that's built into Sandy Bridge chips used on the base mac mini model, in which case no, it's probably not sufficient to play those games without dropping down to a very low resolution and lowering the details to minimum. The higher-end...

Why would I want to use OSX over Win7 or *nix?

If you're into software development, and want to write apps for iOS (for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad) then OSX is pretty much the only game in town there. Other than that, for just about everything else, it is still almost entirely personal preference.

    What tablet are you using?

iPad 2 - I mainly use mine as a mobile recorder with Garageband and an IK Multmedia iRig Mic, for projects that don't need more than a few tracks. While it still doesn't replace a laptop + audio controller + MIDI keyboard, for quick 'n dirty recordings or scratch tracks it's worked out pretty...

So, what was your first build? The one that started it all?

My first "build with my own money" computer was a Celeron 300A on an Abit BH6 that overclocked to 450MHz. Come to think of it, I think I started reading AT because of this whole new overclocking with jumperless motherboards thing at the time...

But how do you set up Time Capsule as a NAS?

Isn't it supposed to automatically show up as an AirPort Disk under your Shared drives? And no, Time Machine will not run if you are not connected to your Time Capsule using either wired or wireless, in other words you have to be on your own network for it to work.

I've been living under a rock, infinity blade is Jesus reborn!

The higher resolution on the iPhone 4 taxes the GPU a bit more than on the 3GS, but it's still smooth and playable (to me at least). Should run really well on a 4S or iPad 2.

    iOS + Android > PSP + DS

I think Infinity Blade has replaced Angry Birds as my favorite quick play for five minutes game on my phone. Graphics look pretty good to me, but the gameplay is what makes it fun, because you actually use the touchscreen to slice 'n dice and kick the living shit out of the enemies.

+1 for Defense Grid. I got last year on Steam for $5. There's actually a version on XBox Live for the 360. I'm thinking the controls might be a bit more difficult there without a mouse though.

    Honda CB1100

The USA will probably never get it because Honda thinks there is no market for standards, or throwback UJMs. And they're probably right. Same goes for the Kawasaki W800, but that might be because it would be a tough sell against the newer Thai-built Triumph Bonneville.

Any guilty feelings on liking an unpopular car?

I love my car even though according to Nissan only 2% of Altimas are for the V6. But I thought it was totally worth it (supposedly the Altima is the cheapest family sedan to go from the 4-banger to the V6). 7 years and 130,000+ miles and no problems, so I can't complain.

Very, very cheap build as replacement for 10 year old pc....

Hey to the OP: just a warning on that PowerSpec TX366 case which in itself isn't bad for $20, but the front panel connector is a single 2x5 10-pin block that's keyed to work with certain MSI motherboards that Microcenter uses in their PowerSpec branded boxes. In other words, it doesn't have...

Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Family Pack (3-User) $109.99

    Celeron-D series runs 64 bit?

Although later Socket 775 Celeron-D and Pentium4-HT chips had x86-64 support, they were often paired with the Intel 945 chipset which could only use 2.99GB even if it had 4GB installed due to hardware limitations on how it mapped memory. Of course the Intel 965 chispet fixed this, but by then...
