are you just taking about speed in games and 3D graphics or in applications and general performance with 2D graphics, interfaces, and displays? Does audio recording software, video and graphics programs access the video memory at all. Or does that mainly just need fast Ram in the motherboard...

Where's 32mb catch on the segate .11 come in handy?

Just noticed the new Seagate barracuda has 32mb catch. Do you think there would be a noticeable performance boost with that? Specifically for playing large gb sample libraries which store the beginnings of thousands of sounds in ram and then play the remainder from the hardrive?

completely new Processor, 2 gig Ram, Hard drives (3 a total of about 800-900Gb SATA II), Motherboard, case, and Graphics (dirt cheap for 2 screen monitor only), DVD RW. for $800. He has a CRT keyboard & mouse for now. I'm thinking maybe more like $900ish to get a slightly better processor.
