    E6750 & Gigabyte P35C-DS3R Overclocking Thread

I can't help but ask about your RAM timings. I tested several different combinations and found my fastest/tighest timings to be 5-5-4-10. Now I know many people argue that the formula to find the right number for the last set (tRAS) is CAS + tRCD + 2, but I find the when you leave the + 2 out...

It's the good old G0 stepping - the batch I do not know and not about to find out if looking at the CPU is the only way to tell. It just seems like I got a voltage-hungry chip. At what speed do you hit the FSB wall, 3.8GHz+?

Thanks. I was too lazy to type all that out. :wine:

e6750 needs crazy vcore for some reason

What's the stock voltage for the E2140? Is it 1.325v? If so, that means you only needed .09375v to (more than) double the speed of that processor. To me, that is excellent!

Yeah, if anything, I would just bring back stock values, let it boot, shutdown, and start replacing. Don't be upset if your new RAM is not automatically set to 4-4-4-12. Nine times out of ten it will not be, just change it manually and let us know. Good luck!

e6750 needs crazy vcore for some reason

From my posts on another thread: I spent a majority of the day seeing the minimum amount of voltage per 200MHz step. I only did 3.2GHz - 3.6GHz, but at least now I know what works and what doesn't. 3.2GHz - 1.3375v in BIOS 3.4GHz - 1.41875v in BIOS 3.6GHz - 1.5v in BIOS It's really...

From experience and from what I've seen/read, you'll only be able to tell once you cross that 3.2GHz barrier. That's when it will either really shine or just glow, if you get my analogy...

    E6750 & Gigabyte P35C-DS3R Overclocking Thread

On page 38, I listed my minimum stable voltages for 3.2GHz - 3.6GHz in 200MHz steps. They are as follows: 3.2GHz - 1.3375v in BIOS 3.4GHz - 1.41875v in BIOS 3.6GHz - 1.5v in BIOS It's really interesting to compare voltage consumption amongst other E6750's. If you notice above, the...

@mrfatboy: This may have been covered in the sea of previous pages, but I'll ask anyway. That voltage in your sig, is that actual voltage or BIOS "set" voltage?

Make sure you set that RAM "Performance Enhance" option to "Extreme". Don't settle for anything less - it makes a HUGE difference. Also, what Conjugal said. :)

First of all, welcome. I'm sure you will be able to overclock just fine with a little more knowledge. I'm actually surprised to hear you haven't been stable at 3.0GHz with Corsair RAM. You stated you tried 3.0GHz @ the default voltage, which should be achievable, yet you could not boot into...

When I set that value to something too low, I couldn't even POST. I guess I should have elaborated on what I meant by instability. I haven't actually tried putting a 0 in, I might have to see tonight what would happen then. I also went down from 42 to 40, then to 35 - mostly in increments of 5...

@Conjugal The 0 setting may be similar, if not the same as auto, whereas 1 or more may actually place a value on the ACT delay. As for the best P35-DS3R BIOS, I would say F9, hands down. At +0.3v, I get 2.11v and at +0.4v, I get 2.24v. They also seem to have fixed the "smart fan" idle speed...

Sounds like a decent overclock, but why 4-4-4-15? With XMS RAM, you should be able to do 4-4-4-12 easily, or even 4-4-4-10.

At first, I thought I had a really good E6750. I am able to run at stock speed using a little over 1.0v through BIOS. However, I've found that when trying to reach higher clocks, it seems to be very voltage hungry. When I was testing 3.6GHz-3.8GHz, it needed ~1.48v or so to even boot into...

I am able to do most, if not all tasks I normally would do on 3.6 - I simply can't run Orthos. I can even run Prime95 for a while without errors. I don't consider not being "Orthos stable" a big deal, as long as I don't get BSODs doing anything else.

@ Conjugal: Fitment is perfect on my P35-DS3R, and leaves plenty of space for components. I would definitely consider the 9700 a quiet heatsink overall. Granted, my 3 other case fans and 4 HDDs kind of drown out everything else, but it seems to be very quiet at idle. When I turn up the...

Nope, I'm so impressed with these temps that I'm scared to touch anything now. Plus, my new heatsink arrives today so I'll be installing that later. I'll make sure and get a good temperature comparison chart going (stock Intel fan vs. Zalman CNPS9700).
