Honestly I don't know if 4K makes any sense for games and I'm not sure it will in 5 years. Games are continuing to become more demanding and with that you lose the leeway (or tolerance) to increase resolution. Years ago when resolution was increasing like crazy hardware was outpacing its demand...

16.5.2.1 made a world of difference, from 35-40fps minimums to 70fps minimums in the thick of it, Ultra settings. It's beyond 35%. AMD probably staying on the conservative side, it's as if a switch was flipped.

Because of stuff like this: That is becoming more and more prevalent and given that the 1090t has about the same IPC as an FX 8370 it's performance can be very close depending on how the developer threads the engine. I could imagine that the 1090t is very close to the FX in this benchmark.

Honestly if you can find yourself a used 7970 or something you should be good to go. The bottleneck depends on the games that you play but the only place for CPU utilization to go from here is down and efficiency, up. Of course that platform may be missing some of the features and extensions...

Ah, so it's probably only happening when Overdrive is enabled. I never use OD, straight to Afterburner. Definitely not. I don't think I've ever let any of my cards use their own fan profile unless it's a media PC. Been methodical about that since the RivaTuner days.

Yeah, after seeing the correct results it's probably just thermal paste as suggested, maybe a reseat. This is where personally I'd rather void the warranty, rip the heatsink off and repaste rather than wait for it to go through the replacement process.

DX12 here?

It's literally rendering in DX11 while using the 12's API and extensions. It's the same thing as rendering using DX10/10.1 while using DX11's shell with a command line argument I believe, not full-on but it probably is benefiting in certain ways. This also wasn't an official release from Epic...

I'd get a 390 or 290x and undervolt it at stock clocks or possibly underclock it slightly and undervolt it further if your satisfied with the performance. You should be able to drop the voltage back at least a little at stock clocks and redeem 10 or 20w and 1 or 2*C or possibly further depending...

280x vs Fury X scaling-- double shaders, double performance?

The synthetics aren't showing a lack of scaling, and I know, it's a synthetic. The point of it however is to relieve any CPU limit or rid-of anomalies which could be caused by the CPU to produce a clean GPU benchmark - what seems to be happening is that in normal gaming the GPU is 'out-powering'...
