Another factor that i've noticed it depends on your fan. If you have a high speed fan that is loud, the vibrations somehow tends to squeeze out the thermal paste.

Why don't you use the onboard lan instead of installing another nic?
Well to fix your problem just go to device manager and right click on the onboard lan and click disable. That'll stop windows from searching for new drivers everytime you boot up.

Also where are your log files located? You should really put them on there own drive.. raid 1 will suffice for it because log files are written to drive sequentially.
My athlon xp 2200 was able to overclock to around 1900 mhz.

Those temps are extremely high, are you sure the heatsinks are mounted correctly?
Did you take off that plastic flim that was covering the thermal pad on the heatsinks?
Maybe you want to use thermal compound instead of the thermal pad that come with retail heatsinks.
When I was using an Alpha I cleaned it with water before. Just make sure you let it all dry out before using it again. Personally I would use a hair dryer to dry it off faster.

I had an alpha 8045 and I was getting pretty high temps. It was because the heatsink wasn't making enough contact with the cpu. I eventually gave up on the alpha and purchased an AX-7.
