    New PC Advise Wanted!!!

Answer the sticky. If you want something to just hold off until next year, get a cheapo Dell for now. Intel is changing the socket for Nehalem so the upgrade path is blocked for today's motherboards.

    New System

Nothing particularly wrong, but I'd rather go with the E7200 or E8400. You can save yourself $20 or $80 and can be OCed as well or better. I took my friend's E7200 up to 3.0GHz and another's E8400 to 3.6GHz without really trying and didn't do much tinkering to get it there. It might take a...

    Newegg 24 hour sale-Samsung F1 750GB or Seagate 750GB $99.99

Just bought the WD 640GB for $95 shipped. Almost bit on this one but realized I would've ended up with a bill for around $115 after tax/shipping costs. Still not bad though.

Is this budget computer build compatible?

Probably on fairly low settings. The 8500GT is a very weak GPU by today's standards.

New build .."future proof" or wait for Nehalem? *EDIT please take a peek at my components :)

Nehalem will probably outperform it, hard to say since it's not out yet, but a new system certainly won't be slow There isn't much "future proofing" you can do with Nehalem coming out either. If you NEED the system now, build it. Something new is always "around the corner." As far as your...

Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824009094 At that cost, the AMD 780G board is probably a good option. Roughly $100. http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813128090 Pick up an AMD processor of your choice. The 5000+ Black Edition is about $80, but you can...

How much energy am i wasting by never turning off my 20" LCD monitor?

Don't forget to factor in the 1 calorie to extend your arm and push the button. And whether or not you save a lot of money, think about the life of the monitor. If you're monitor is rated to run (a completely made up number for this example) 10,000 hours and let's say you're addicted to...

    All new build - Help!

I'd probably wait for the new GPUs, but the 8800GTS is a banging card for the price. Antec 900 is also a nice case. Despite having 6 fans, it's fairly quiet on medium settings. As for monitors, I'd go down to a local electronic store and take a look, then shop online for a better deal. I...

    New Build Critique

What DSF said. Along with that, the sound card *may* be unnecessary. And why a DVD-ROM and a DVD burner? I'd ditch one or just get another DVD burner for that little extra functionality and the cost increase is minimal. For that kind of usage, you might be able to utilize a quad core as...

Should just do a low end (AMD and Intel), mid range, and high end. Have the prices at whatever it may be, and it should give people a start. After that, people can start their own threads and fine tune if needed.

First Timer Rig... Phase 1: Parts

Answer the sticky. Ditch the SLi motherboard if you aren't going to use SLi. No need to pay for things you won't use. Gigabyte P35-DS3L is a good simple basic motherboard. Get the 8800GTS 512MB instead. The 640MB version is outdated and slow in comparison. Don't need the CPU cooler if...

    new build+ bunch of doubts

Pick up the Q9450. MSI or XFX 8800GT will be fine, which ever is cheaper. Probably won't need the sound card. Windows 64-bit. 15. Not a big issue right now, PCI-E 1.0 video cards don't even reach the maximum bandwith IIRC. 16. 8800GT is fine, no real reason to go with the 9600GT unless...

Intel dual core build (cpu/mobo/ram) for around $300/350?

Cut back to a E2160 for almost half the price of an E7200 and can overclock to at least 2.6GHz. Some can hit 3.2GHz. Should be plenty. If you're not overclocking though, go with the E7200.

    Opinions/Suggestions on this system?

Learn to overclock. The E2160 overclocked to 3.0GHz can almost keep up with the Q6600 overclock to 3.2GHz. CPU: E2160 for $65.50 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16819116036 Mobo: Gigabyte P35-DS3L for ~$100 shipped - http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...8509&prodlist=celebros...

    New Gaming build, need help\suggestions

Change the CPU to the E8400 instead. It's *slightly* better for gaming and most likely a tad cheaper. Are you going to SLi? If so, then the 750i board is fine, if you're not, then switch to a simple P35 motherboard. The Gigabyte P35-DS3L is around $90, has the basic features, and OCs very...

    Not sure about upgrading

How much value do you hold to having the latest and the greatest? In all honesty, the hardware that is out right now will suit most anyone's needs. Waiting 6 months to build a *slightly* better computer is probably not worth it when you consider the performance gain is going to be very minor...

    New build. Your thoughts?

Get rid of the whole "the more it cost the better it is" mentality. P35 chipset motherboards are cheaper because have you less features, not because nVidia chipsets are "better." There's no reason to pay for features you won't be using.

Advice Needed - New Computer Help

Cut back to the DS3L if you don't need extra features. I think a cheaper video card might even be capable of what you need, maybe an ATi 3650 for $60. Other than that, the rest of angry hampster's build is pretty solid. You might want to get the Samsung Spinpoint F1 750GB for a bit more...

    Recovering data

My cousin's Sony Vaio laptop got messed up pretty bad, I'm guessing a virus of some sort. Basically, when it gets to the Windows loading screen, it'll sit for about 3-5 seconds, flash a BSOD for about half a second, then restart. Does this with every option - Safe Mode w/ or w/o...

Help with new CD2 790i build

Wait til then to ask again. Prices might change and with that recommendations. Most will tell you to avoid DDR3 and 790i. It's really a waste of money, when you can go DDR2 and a cheaper motherboard at half the cost and get 95% of the performance.

My new builds been a nightmare ; (

Well, Prime95 is giving you errors right away, so your system is definitely unstable. Probably something wrong with the CPU or the RAM. I'm assuming you're not overclocking anything. So in your BIOS, change the DRAM:FSB ratio to 2.0. The multiplier and FSB speed should be on Auto or grayed...

Time for a new PC build, suggestions?

There are plenty of other places to shop besides Newegg. For instance, Buy.com offers the Corsair power supplies and Antec Sonata III (case/psu combo) at lower price thanks to a MIR. If you shop around you can probably knock off close to $100 saving $10 here and there.
