60Hz CRT doesn't look the same as 60Hz LCD, so you don't notice a flicker. In fact, I've never seen LCDs flickering.
So looks like I have to drop the 16:10 requirement. So.. any pointers for a 120Hz 3D monitor for gaming?
I am looking for a 24" 16:10 120Hz Display(to use with Nvidia 3D, have yet to buy 3D gear).
Also, I play twitch FPSes like UT3 so want minimal input lag and I am willing to sacrifice picture quality for it. I have a 8800GTS 512 (planning to upgrade soon).
Any pointers?
The competition isn't only about creating the absolute fastest GPU, it's about cost and profitability too. Nvidia announcing the 9800 GTX+ at 2am to some reviewers before the NDA for the 4850 lifted and having to lower the prices of 260 and 280 due to the 4870 being aggressively priced showed...
Even if you're a Nvidia buyer, the RV770 helped you by lowering the prices of Nvidia products bigtime due to it's excellent price/performance ratio. ATI could have easily released the 4870 at $400 instead of $300 and still be competitive with Nvidia's offerings at that time. They did not, and...
I take it's the 320/640MB version? Because the 512MB version is about 1.1 years old. That card was outdated a really long time ago. SLI would be pretty much useless, I think even the 9800GT for $100 should be able to beat SLI'ed 8800GTS 320/640. ATI seems to have improved it's drivers but there...
Thanks to all the posters. I think I am going to buy the Sapphire 1GB version. Will I need any PCI-E power converters for my power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/...ology++Inc.-_-17341002
Also, is PCI-E 1.1 fast enough for that card?
Which 4870 has the best cooling and preferably pre-overclocked? I don't want to install aftermarket coolers as I am not comfortable with that.
I have a 8800GTS with a EVGA 680iLT SLI motherboard with PCIe 1.1. I mostly only play UT3 right now with a 19" monitor. Planning to upgrade to a 24"...
I would say the GTS is better because of the better dual slot cooler that pushes the heat out. Summer's almost here! Though you could overclock the GT and get it's performance upto that of the stock GTS, the GTS overclocks pretty well too and you could get close to the speeds of the GTX.
I agree with Crisium. You wouldn't want to SLI two GX2's in the future anyway, because of diminishing returns on the 3rd and 4th cards. Either don't spend so much on a SLI board or make use of the SLI (at least make sure there's a sane SLI upgrade path in the future). Also, Microcenter has the...
I haven't RMA'ed the card yet because it worked fine in the Vista 32bit dual boot install. Another card also might have the same problem. Also if it was a hardware issue or a bios issue, why would it work well in the other OS? This has to be a software or a driver issue. I uninstalled various...
@tigersty1e: It's a EVGA card. The 3dMark06 scores were ~12,000 before this started happening and about 7000 now. The clocks during heavy gaming are the same, the rivatuner monitor graphs show no increases at all(except the temperature graph) and gpuz also shows nothing if I alt tab or alt enter...
I have been having a issue with my 8800GTS G92 since about four weeks. The graphics card is being downclocked as per rivatuner info here:

The extreme amount of spin and fanboyism on the arguments here is getting annoying. I have never owned a ATI card but I always try to suggest it over Nvidia if it suits people needs, and if it's a close equal, I recommend ATI because competition is good. My only fear is that some(2?) posters...
I call bs. I've been in a small room with 8 desktop computers running with 19" monitors and the room was really cool even in summer. And no one gets sunburned except from direct light exposure.
Sorry, that is just plain wrong. The only time the video card does that is when vsync is turned on. The whole phenomenon of tearing happens because the video card sends many more frames than the monitor can display at it's refresh rate. Hence the monitor displays top part of one frame and the...
Interesting that most people still do not know about input lag and how it's different from response time. I would say you wouldn't be able perceive just 2ms in response time. I think your old monitor had lots of input lag. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Input_lag
I bought a EVGA 8800GTS G92 512MB towards the end of december for 360 bucks from newegg(came with free Crysis). I bought a stock EVGA only because of their step up program because I knew 9000 series was on the horizon and there were no factory OC cards from EVGA back then.
I am pretty...

Uhh? Always? Doesn't anyone remember the race to 1 Ghz in which Intel tried to cheat and fell on its face? Also, the Athlons were the choice for gamers those days. Intel ate crow with the Itanium and had to totally "steal" and "clone" AMD64 in order to save face and get back into the game. Just...

AMD called us to announce new prices for the Radeon HD 3850 512 MB and HD 3870. In the USA tonight (and everywhere else soon after), e-tailer prices for the HD 3870 should drop from $245 to $189; The price of the HD 3850 512 MB...
I'm waiting and waiting for a 1080p 22" monitor. 24" is too big for me but I want 1080p. The Lenovo L220X is the only one right now but it's hard to find gaming reviews, input lag and availability is bad as well.
Unless you're having issues with the fan/cooling on the GT, I suggest you hold off the 'stepup for the sake of stepup". It's a waste of money, time, loss of use of card/pc for the transit time. Also, a number of issues can go wrong, the card can be DOA etc. all for a marginal benefit.
Get the HD3870 and save the rest of the money for your next upgrade OR pay a little extra and get the new GTS. GT for $310 bucks is NOT a good buy. Might be worth it at $250-270.
