Well after an afternoon yesterday of running around I managed to get the en8800gt's bios flashed and all seems to be well with the graphics card so all good there then.

Just bought an Asus en8800gt 512mb Current vga bios is 62.92.12.00.04 and after having installed get the black screen thingy.
Didn't know about the pci express gen 1 issue...
