i would revert back. they pulled the bios for a reason. i had nothing but issues with it. even my time clock was running twice as fast.
edit: i figured there was something wrong with my overclock so i dailed it back to 3.8ghz to test. and the motherboard wouldn't even overclock, it ran at stock...
I have the pro board. 4.xx would reboot my system. I reverted back to 3.3. Asrock pulled the bios update. Looks like agesa 1.0072 just isn't stable. Ive been reading other manufacturers also having issues with it.
Best bet is ebay. I tried looking for an ivy bridge board a few months ago. Could not find a new one for a reasonal price. Bought a used intel board off ebay.
8100 if you're going apu route (don't overclock route). those motherboards are still too high though. i just abought an asrock ab350m pro4 board for $53 after rebate. cheapest z370 board is $110, thats almost a $60 price difference. you can use that $60 to get a ryzen 1400. gotta wait till 2018...

Depends if you can find cheap mobo. I5 ivybridge is cheap second hand and ddr3 ram is way cheaper than ddr4 second hand. But its alot harder to find mobos. Most secondhand seem to be coming from china now.
does that i3 have an integrated graphics? if it does you can take out the video card and see if it still crashes.
you have 1 stick or 2 sticks of ram? try different sticks on different slots.

thats a good point. i didn't realize power saving mode. i also have a few less than 1tb drives lying around. mostly laptop drives that i pulled when i upgrade the laptops to ssds. i usually install the pulled drives to friends and families older pc's as storage drives for them.
well in regards to this old thread, usb3 card readers are like a $1-2 more than a usb2 reader now so theres no point in buying a usb2 card reader. but i understand your point.
