I also didn't bother looking at the photographer's site after it loaded and music started playing. There is nothing more aggravating to me than a site embedded with music.
If you have a touchscreen device (all-in-one or tab) then W8 will be a huge benefit. The layout is very slick and simple.
For traditional desktop or laptop users though, I am not sure what the benefits would be. I'll stick with 7 on my business rig for a while as I haven't had a single issue...

Consider the Hyundai Azera. Very plush and quiet. Chevy Impala is also a good bet. Very reliable and they get decent gas mileage as well.
I actually really like my Samsung BW-series 24" TN panel. Calibrated via Spyder3, it looks outstanding and they are relatively cheap compared to an IPS.
I would recommend just getting a VGA->DVI adapter for your laptop as this will broaden your selection and only costs ~$7-8.
Something else that's impressed me about this TV is how quick it is. From the time you hit the power button to the time you have picture and sound is about 2 seconds. With my Vizio LCD, it's roughly 6-7 seconds. Switching between inputs is instant.

This has been my experience with the 50" so far. Its picture looks better than my 1080p 37" Vizio. Color accuracy is very nice right out of the box too.
