Re 1394... I use Texas Instruments OEM IEEE1394 controller (hard to find) on a WinXP machine and the $15 CHP controller from NewEgg on a Win2000 box - both AthlonXP and VIA KT266A based systems. They both work fine and natively under XP and 2000, i.e. no need for drivers, and are great with...
This Panasonic unit is a DVD-RAM recorder. It's more of a digital VCR since it uses rewriteable DVD-RAM dics rather than DVD-R/W media. The DVD-RAM disks come in cartriges and do not play on anything else but DVD-RAM unit. Therefore, this is not really a DVD recorder because it does not create...
I've been using Epox 8KHA+ for few weeks and zero problems. I bought it because at the time very few 266A mobos were actually shipping and my first choice K7T266Pro2 died within a week so I exchanged it for the Epox board. I don't overclock but run the memory in turbo mode with a 512 stick of...
Whatever tool you use to convert to MPEG4 should have compression setting. Use less compression. Your file will be larger but quality a lot better and till smaller than MJPG.

I never hated anyone... until now. Muslim fanatics should not be allowed to live and breed. They're lower than roaches and rats and they should be exterminated without mercy! They're a disease of this world. There will never be peace until the last one of them is killed. Their countries should...
Thanks. Yeah, I was reading a lot today about this, even installed more powerfull intake/exhhaust fans in my case and pushed my card to 220/380, but I'm beginning to believe that this is not worth the trouble.

Hi!
I'm looking some info on how to remove the standard blue memory heatsinks and the chipset sink/fan combo from Hercules Prophte II GTS 64MB. What's involved? Are they attached with tape or compound. I can't figure it out and I'd be afraid just to pull them with force.
I want to squeeze some...
Thank for the info tazdevl, but I'm still not sure. I use Live! drive all the times for MIDI and hadpohones connections and occasional mic recording - I can't live without it. This diminishes the advantages of Nforce for me. Still, I'm putting off my new upgrade (mobo, cpu, RAM) untill Nforce...
They seem cool, but GF2MX is too slow and I can't give up my Live! front panel. I'm a bit disappointed at the built in graphics. Maybe motherboard manufacturers will offer some extras, such as front audio I/O panels?
Nforce is low end regardless of the improvements. Integrated solutions have...
Ever since 6330v27 (now 28) I have a weird problem. For some reason most programs that read from BIOS like Norton Disk Doctor or Retrospect to verify drives think that my ATAPI ZIP is a fixed disk and I run into tons of problems. Mainly these programs will crash when scanning for disks. I was...
MrCodeDude, how did you reinstall 5.5? There is no uninstall option for 6. Can you just run 5.5 installer or need to reinstall Windows? Yeah, 6 is so buggy it's annoying and useless.
Zak
I don't have this one but I have many other problems. I wish I never installed IE6. I mostly have problems with Flash and Java playback, cgi forms and cookies. The security settings are screwing things up. All of a sudden Micro$oft cares about our privacy - what a pile of crap.

Hi all!
Is there a way to use DVD-RAM in Win2000 Pro other/cheaper than buying WriteDVD! for $90? My drive came with WriteDVD! for Win98 and I want to switch to Win2k but the version WriteDVD isn't compatible with Win2k and, of course, they won't let you upgrade from WriteDVD for 98 to WriteDVD...
I couldn't care less for burn-proof. I don't remember when was the last time I had a bad burn. Computers are very fast and modern burners and media are very reliable.

But this game is two-or-so years away, right? By the time it comes out it won't be as shocking I bet. UT2 (or whatever it was) demo was also impressive as hell. Skeletal animation and high detail plus the outdoors knocked my socks off...OK, OK I wasn't wearing socks at the time. I am tired of...
True traVinator, I wonder what kind of improvement current gmes will see running on GF3. Like T&L - I had no single game during the lifetime of my first GeForce that used T&L. Even now after a year or so, there are very few that take real advantage of T&L.

The way someone told me is that the aperture grill is bent or coils are damaged or something like that and it's a permanent physical damage, since you can't fix anything inside the tube. I may be wrong though! Hear some other opinions.
Yes, I have simliar setup: Live! Platinum, PowerDVD and some Hitachi DVD player. Digital audio from DVD only works over IDE - this way you get all the goodies like Dolby surround and stuff. SPDIF works with Audio CDs only.
Zak
It may be permanent damage. My friend did that to his TV by putting crappy center speaker on top of it. After a week only it developed a colored (pinkish) stripe on the top edge and it never went away.

Well, I want at least 50% improvement in gaming performance and realistsic gaming at 1600x1200. My last upgrade 1GHz Athlon GF2GTS64MB was in fall 2000. I am not going to buy any CPU nor vid card of the upcoming generation. I think that I will hold off untill fall again. I am very happy with my...
Yup. A vid card does not directly affect your connection speed. What you have gives you decent 2D and screen redraws good enough for a web browser.

I use both 75GXPs (3) and 40+s (2) and they're all great drives. Your "idiot comment" wasn't funny and it was stupid and totally out of place here (or anywhere else for that matter).
Done with you...
Anyway, I am looking forward to the final release as well. My initial reaction was...
Thanks. The reason I asked is that I don't have Win2000Pro, but 2000Srvr only and I hesitate to buy it yet since I am not entirely sure that all my stuff will run on it. I know that NFS games don't run, bummer, so I may do a dual boot machine, which I don't really like. I will give the server a...
Hi all,
Few Win2000 questions.
I have a copy of 2000Srvr, and I'd like to try to replace my 98SE. Can the 2000Srvr be used as workstation OS? I wouldn't, of course, install all the server services to make the system lean. Would 2000Pro be faster in this case? It would be for everyday use...
