So, the the computer actually stopped working after day 3. I really was sure it was the mobo as the computer would boot normally with the new one but nope. Just wouldn't turn on again after a few days. So of course I RMA'd the PSU and lo and behold that was the problem. Looks like you were all...
Solved...
Looks like it was a bad motherboard after all. I put it the new motherboard and it starts up and runs everything as it should be. I did some a small 5 minute prime95 test to stress it a bit and everything seems normal. Asrock will be RMA'ing the board and I'll have everything back to...
Well to be fair in 10 years of home built PC's this is the first mobo or PSU to go bad on me. And I contacted Asrock and was pleasantly surprised when they contacted me within 4 hours AND approved my RMA request. Plus I save several hundred dollars buying each component on sale, get components...
Thanks for the replies. Well if it is the PSU it's got quite the warranty from EVGA so I know it is covered at least. I already sent a request to Asrock but I was not looking forward to dealing with them. I suppose I'll start the RMA process with EVGA to get the ball rolling there too.
Fairly sure it's a dead mobo but would like confirmation.
i7-4790k, Asrock Z97 Pro 4, EVGA Supernova 850W GS
So, I've gone through the steps, breadboarded the computer, and determined the all components are working except the mobo or the PSU. The PSU turns on and runs a fan but I've heard that...
Two things that usually fix this... go to your nvidia control panel and for your global 3D settings make sure adaptive sync is enabled as well as limiting pre-rendered frames to 1. Then go to your G-sync menu on your left and uncheck the g-sync in windowed mode if you're using fullscreen, or...
Well, if you can afford it, they make a 1440p IPS G-Sync monitor for $700. It's probably the best gaming monitor you can buy atm. http://www.amazon.com/Asus-PG278Q-27-Inch-G-SYNC-Monitor/dp/B00MSOND8C
Undervolting is just like overclocking but in reverse. This won't affect performance as you're not changing the clocks though. Setting the power limit lower is a good idea though that's more likely to keep temps down way better in 3D mode without losing any stability.
Since this modifies the .exe would it be bad to use it in a multiplayer game like Star Wars: Battlefront? I really don't wanna get a smack down from BattleEye for using a visual mod.
Have you seen that butt? Clearly needs 64x tessellation. But seriously, it's probably another game just tessellating everything to excessive levels to make AMD cards perform worse.
Your comment piqued my interest so I unplugged my second monitor and ran some tests (before it was just turned off, but I supposed the GPU doesn't care about that at all.)
Here is 144hz completely idle.
Here is 144hz browsing reddit (gif's and images).
Now here is 144hz while...
There are some games I get 144hz on... Dota2. CSGO. Also some other games can reach 144fps in certain scenes but it's very rare. Overall, not a big deal. I'll just keep it at 120hz and if I remember switch it to 144 when necessary.
Alright here's my findings from a GTX 970 and a 1080p XB240H G-Sync monitor.
First here is 144hz.
Second is 60hz.
Third is 120hz.
Pretty interesting! I guess 144hz really does just suck up the power. I guess I'll keep my default hz to 120 until this mess is fixed.
Edit: second...
I just got a 24" G-Sync monitor and I have to say the fluidity is very enjoyable. I got G-Sync because I didn't want to worry about pushing 120+ frames to get a smooth picture and I do not notice any change when going from 80 to 120 fps. The cost is considerable though I got mine for $389...
There's gotta be 20-30 hours of content there. Is $1/hr worth it to you? Depends if you like RTS and scifi. WoL's story is much more engaging than HotS IMO (I didn't even finish the second game but read about it). I also liked SC1 a lot and played it quite a bit.
Realistic answer is we don't know but Pascal won't be out for another year and cards are unlikely to drop in price by then. Uness you're looking at the GTX 950 range you might as well buy now.
You literally described my exact situation when I bought my 4790k. Had DDR3. Budget mattered enough that +$200 was too much (even at microcenter). I even ended up getting a GTX 970. Did I want a hexacore? Sure but the X99 platform was too expensive. Skylake hexacore+ will definitely be the...
On just the PC...
Oregon Trail
Lemmings
Fallout
Starcraft
Rollercoaster Tycoon
Simcity has got to be in there somewhere.
I remember my cousin burned all these games onto some CDs when we got our first HP computer. Yup, younger me was a hardcore pirate.
Wow, I gotta say both parties have handled this really poorly so far. Derek Smart just comes off as a bitter ass with a chip on his shoulder. But that RSI post really deflected poorly there. "We're being persecuted because were progressive, pro-gun, mostly male, and pro-capitalist." I mean I...
Two things: 1. You're running your 980Ti at reference clocks, most Ti's can get at least +100mhz if not up to +250mhz. That will get you above 60 pretty comfortably. 2. We don't know your CPU and that's a very important factor for maintaining min FPS (even though TW3 is usually pretty light on...
Yeah EVGA Precision has the same problem. I'm honestly surprised at both companies for not fixing it as its been an ongoing problem. Even nvidia dropped the ball with these last drivers. I'm still on 347.88 and see no reason to update as I prefer stability over all else like everyone should...
It's 100% AB. You need to use OC Guru II and use the minimum voltage offset and bump it up by one tick. IIRC it's 0.025V. 970s have a weird voltage table that makes the driver crash when it boosts the core clock faster than what AB can raise the voltage to (so I hear, I'm no expert). Do this and...
That's the real question isn't it? It seems AMD have been really working toward DX12, and this card looks really powerful on paper but seems to fall flat on it's face. I can't help but wonder how this card performs under DX12. Obviously that doesn't help them sell cards now though, so I guess...
Interesting thoughts... to me it seems Andromeda is "the wild west" and people are settling there from the Milky Way. Maybe N7 are the guys to clear the way for these people. Just the vibe I got from the music and panning through the planets to find the right one.
And yeah I am happy too...
Wow that looked really good. The Mass Effect universe is probably the best sci-fi game world out there. I hope Shepard's story and the Reapers are over though... they have so much more to explore besides those two things.
Did you play until the end? Riding to the tower with the world coming to an end, chaos raining down, Nilfgaardians fighting wild hunt as you jump ship to ship , fighting in between worlds as your thrown through portals? All seemed pretty epic to me.
