Ruby's right. It doesn't really matter. I've used stock, AS5, Ceramique and the gloop that Thermalright supplied with a HR-05 NB heatsink. Haven't noticed any significant difference in the real world. You'd need to be testing your PC in very strict lab conditions to notice any difference...

CPU cooling for Antec 900, quad core, P5E3-Premium

I have the Antec 900 and an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. I'm not keen on the combination. It's noisy and not as effective as the bigger coolers. You'd probably be better off going for a CPU cooler that natively accepts a 120mm fan (generally higher CFM and lower noise) over a 92mm fan...

Perhaps a stupid question: why are you running your E4500 at an 8x multi? Don't those chips run with 10x or 11x multis? Try lowering you fsb to 333 with max multi and see what happens.

E8600 Prime stable @ 4Ghz undervolted ;)

Impressive. That's almost 1 GHz more, for 0.5v and 10 degrees C less than my OC'd E4300. For a CPU that costs only...er...almost twice as much as the one I have!!! My usual source doesn't stock them, and the alternative UK source has them listed on pre-order at £188. Ouch...

Why? It's going to cost me £109 (at current prices). The question really is, why is it going to be good? It's not that I don't believe you (I do, if I've read the reviews correctly) but the cache issue is a bit of virgin territory for me. Is it the cache? Is that important in gaming?

Thermal Paste

You are alleged to find a slight reduction in temps (perhaps 1 or 2 degrees C) after up to 100 heat cycles (Power on, CPU Load and Power Off) with AS5. Unless you keep your ambient temperatures absolutely stable, it's a negligible benefit. Variations i the weather will probably disguise the drop.

Taltamir, I have nothing against Quads. If I thought it was the best CPU for me (based on lots of variables) I'd get one. I bought an Intel E4300 last year, and overclocked it to just over 3.0 GHz. At the time, it was the best CPU for me. It hasn't let me down for what I do. But times...
